Share your faith and belief in God or higher powers here. found this statement above the posts on this section. I think its good you use another because there is no power higher than that of God. Just an observation please

@ Evang. Olu, thank you for the good observation, i saw it and was amused myself. Anyway i don't expect anything better from a godless, unbeliever(in God) and atheist site owner. No man can do better than the level of revelation open to him.

@Evang Olu
but then not everybody believes in the christian god but do believe in a higher power, besides this is called the religion section not the christian section of nairaland. smiley

Share your faith and belief in God or higher powers here

This is a simple case of misunderstanding huh

I believe when the section was created, what Seun meant was

"Share your faith and belief in God or (in case you don't believe in God, you can also share your faith and belief in) higher powers (i.e. whatever powers that you think are higher than yourself as a human) here"

This is a very fair and inclusive term for everyone, whatever their worldview. Even atheists agree that there are some things beyond their own human control, whatever those things are.

I don't think the administrator or whoever created the section meant ". . . or powers higher than God".

I hope it's clear now.

It is your human right to argue for now but one day we will all face our maker-God and by then all arguments will cease. You'll only be left with just recompense for ur action and inaction in d body.

Thanks aletheia. I couldn't have replied that better!!

@Evang. Olu and evangy69: In case you care to know, I'm a Christian. I'm only telling you that you should be slow to speak and quick to listen (read) so that you don't make a mockery of yourselves.

Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

That was a good observation.  The moderator probably meant something else but then he/she has the duty to make themselves clear so that we don't misconstrue their words for something else.

See how not making oneself clear can cause misunderstanding in the dramatic encounter below:

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet.  "My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?"

"Well," says the vetinary doctor, "let's have a look at him."  So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then checks his teeth.  Finally he says "I'm going to have to put him down."

"What?! Because he's cross-eyed?!"

"No, because he's really heavy." shocked

May we understand the Lord when He speaks in accents clear and still.

@InesQor being a xtian is not a CV to be flaunted and we don't know one by how many scripture they are able to quote. If you're one,you will live it out. And it has nothing to do with going to an English class either, Jesus showed us the way to know one "By their fruits we will know them" Your vaunting explanation or your jesting on the issue does not erase the fact of the matter. I will like to give you an assignment if you a xtian a with a discerning and sensitive heart. The Religion section of NAIRALAND has become a platform to RIDICULE the name of GOD at every opportunity and as you can see,it is dragging in meaningful postings. It has become an abusive platform to tear each other apart. It is only sensible that people of integrity & gentle spirit will take their exit.

You can tear people down on the virtual plane but men that draw their inspiration from the real Vision, purpose & plan of God take to the real plane(Physical World) to actualise their God's given vision. It won't be long,

@evangy69: If you cannot see that InesQor, aletheia and even Olaadegbu (THREE Christians) AND also the non-Christian moderator manmustwac are telling you that you have misjudged the matter, and you stubbornly insist that you are right; then sorry there is nothing that can be done for you.

Please go and meditate on James 1:19. Cheers

All we can do is to speculate the real intention of the moderator or go by what is written unless we are into voyeurism who can peep into people's mind. shocked

Bros Olaadegbu: There is NO reason to deliberately THINK that the moderator was up to mischief, in the face of ambiguity people like the OP and evangy69 should believe the BEST of the moderator and not FIRST assume that they are looking for trouble.

1Co 13:7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

If Love is not lacking, they ought to believe the best of the moderator; and not seeking trouble like some Muslim patriots that caused trouble because of some cartoons.

The truth is that if you show the sentence to someone who does not have an already BIASED mind, they will read it properly. It's a case of English comprehension, but even if misunderstood, in the face of ambiguity Love should bear up first and assume the best of the moderator's intents.

P.S. By the way, I believe it's the site administrator that makes the sections and descriptions, and not the moderators who are just appointed to manage them.
Re: An observation by OLAADEGBU(m): 2:23pm On Apr 21, 2010
It all depends on the our respective worldviews.  What one makes out of a post depends on the reader's worldview.  An atheist would read Godisnowhere differently to a Bible believing Christian.   While the atheist sees God is no where a Christian would see God is now here.  The bottomline is to ask the site administrator to explain what his real intent is/was.

Re: An observation by justcool(m): 9:39pm On Apr 23, 2010
This is just a case of misunderstanding an English expression. The wording: 'Share your faith and belief in God or higher powers here.' does not denote or suggest that there is power higher than God.

Any power that is believed to be responsible for the creation of the universe could be termed as a 'higher power'; this is just an English expression.

If somebody says:
Tell me about UCLA or higher institutions in California.
This does not mean that the speaker is asking about institutions literally higher than UCLA. The speaker is simply asking about higher institutions, and UCLA happens to be one of them. Thus in this case, 'Higher institution' is just a term used to describe institutions above secondary school education.

Likewise 'higher powers' is a term used to describe the creator, Be it God, big bang, Krishna, oneness of infinity, or what ever power that one believes is responsible for the creation of the universe.

Another example; if someone says:
Mike has graduated from USC and he is now teaching at a higher institution.
This does not mean that Mike is teaching at an institution higher than USC. Mike could be teaching in a college(Not secondary school), or polytechnic. Eventhough USC is literally a higher institution than college or polytechnic; they are all grouped under the term 'higher institutions.'

But the moderator could put the word 'other' in the sentence to make it less confusion. The moderator could modify the sentence this way:

'Share your faith and belief in God or other higher powers here.'

Either way the sentence is correct and does not suggest that there are powers higher than God. The moderator is not to reproached on this issue, he has not done anything wrong.

Thanks
