That's what happens when you buy your property like a loaf of bread without seeking legal advice. There's actually a way out of this for affected property owners. |

James Ibori, Ex-Delta state governor is number 1 on the list. Private jet ( bombadier jet ) plus countless number of choice properties all gotten from looted treasury. Come to Warri, Delta state and see poverty and massive youth unemployment. Alamieyesega of Bayelsa state, Lucky Igbenedion, Joshua Dariye of Plateau state.governor/senator Olusola Saraki now know better that their involvement in corruption brought shame, pain and embarrasement to themselves and their family members. He Done Red for Corrupt Officials in Nigeria especially those who believe in acquiring illicits property in all nook and cranies in Nigeria and abroad. Buhari Nemensis is catching up with all of them. Ole Barawo! 2 Likes |

Irrespective of how they own these properties, Why didn't the US government do this before the foreigners acquire the properties? |

charain:Oga try to read before typing. VAIDS is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance to help tax defaulters regularise their income and declare income and taxes that correspond to their assets. Someone that owns a house in the UK worth 1million pounds cannot be paying income tax of 20,000 naira in Nigeria. There will be information sharing between the UK government and the Finance ministry so that anyone who declares income tax of N20,000 in Nigeria will not have the audacity to go and buy a house in the UK when he knows the Ministry of Finance in Nigeria would have told the UK authorities that you obviously have no legitimate means of livelihood, judging by your tax returns, to support that asset. The UK government can then go ahead and seize the property. |
Re: Nigerians With Property In UK Panic Over Unexplained Wealth Orders by duni04(m): 5:05pm On Feb 12, 2018 |
bkfilms:The FG is actually benefiting from the law because thousands or even millions of Nigerians will now be captured in the tax net. And also, those who have underpaid taxes in Nigeria for years will now have to pay the appropriate taxes in Nigeria or risk losing their property in the UK. |
Re: Nigerians With Property In UK Panic Over Unexplained Wealth Orders by charain: 5:19pm On Feb 12, 2018 |
duni04: VAIDS has nothing to do with the UK law, those contacting VAIDS are doing so to satisfy the requirement for the UK property laws. They don't give a damn about VAIDS. Citizens of other countries would also need the help of their countries tax agency. So you should credit the UK government for helping Nigeria to enforce its tax laws and not the other way round. |

So what's the problem? They said explain.. Those running around are the ones with illegal source of income. If you have a legal source, the UK will only take your details, check them out and that's all. |

Re: Nigerians With Property In UK Panic Over Unexplained Wealth Orders by duni04(m): 5:30pm On Feb 12, 2018 |
charain:So it is a requirement of the new UK legislation that you place a phone call to the VAIDS office and your property is safe? Oga pls read and understand. You cannot own property in the UK without any legal traceable source of income. VAIDS is a framework apart from the UK legislation that allows tax defaulters to regularise their taxes and get waivers from the FG. Since the Tax database of the FIRS is now open to the UK authorities, anyone that is not captured in our database or that understates his income in our database and then goes to buy property in the UK will risk losing it. So anyone in that situation will want to go to the VAIDS office and give his correct income statement in order to justify ownership of the UK property. This will lead to massive increase in tax revenues for the FG. VAIDS is a laudable program from the Ministry of Finance. 1 Like |

duni04:Are you that gullible to know that corrupt politically-exposed people don't usually buy properties abroad with their names? They usually use fronts if you must know and there are many people in the UK that specialise in this. |
