Kogi State Government says it has launched an online Agricultural Market Place to provide farmers in the state access to buyers across the world.

Managing Director, Kogi Agricultural Development Project (ADP), Mr. Oyisi Okatahi who stated this yesterday in Lokoja, the State capital, attributed the successful launch of the scheme to the commitment of Governor Yahaya Bello towards positioning the state as the frontline Agricultural State in the country.

“The digital market will also enable farmers to fully dispose of their produce, help in mitigating against loss of profit to middlemen. It will also help prevent their goods from getting spoilt since buyers could offtake their produce even before harvest. The strategy is for extension agents to help farmers list their products online and get the best prices for their labor,” the Kogi ADP official said.

He noted that the state Governor had given a directive to the agency to execute an agricultural project every month that could be of benefit to the people.

Okatahi identified programmes executed by the agency in line with the directive starting from last November, to include the Kogi Agricultural Summit in December; rice processing and Cassava City in January, as well as the Online Agricultural Market Place, launched in February.

He urged youths to take advantage of the agricultural revolution programmes of both the State and Federal governments to become self-reliant.

He added that the digital agricultural market was not restricted to farmers in the state alone as other farmers nationwide could access it.
