Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea have both been dealt a blow in their respective chases of Arturo Vidal, following comments on the part of the Bayern Munich midfielder during an interview with Sport1.


South American superstar Vidal, an experienced 30-year-old Chilean international, joined Bayern from Italian giants Juventus in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of 40 million Euro.

The all-action box-to-box powerhouse has long been regarded as one of world football’s finest midfielders, with his sensational performances for his country during their back-to-back Copa America triumphs in 2015 and 2016 only serving to reinforce this widely-shared opinion.

However, rather suprisingly, Vidal has nevertheless been persistently linked with an exit from the Alliaz Arena over the last 12 months, with Manchester United having long been touted as a potential destination for the South American.

But, as per a number of reports in the German media last month, it is in fact United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea who have expressed the most genuine interest in the former Bayer Leverkusen standout’s signature.

Vidal previously played under Blues boss Antonio Conte during the pair’s time together at Juventus, with the Chilean’s incredible engine and work-rate having long endeared him to his former boss.

And, with Tiemoue Bakayoko struggling for consistency since his move to Stamford Bridge from Monaco last summer, Conte is said to be on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park, with Vidal topping his wishlist.

Updates in the weeks since had suggested that Chelsea’s chase of Vidal could prove fruitful come the summer, with Bayern Munich having secured a deal to bring German international Leon Goretzka to the club from Schalke 04.
