The 2019 Policy Of A Sincere Leader To Be Voted For By Nigerians by ogatboy(m): 5:42pm On Feb 14, 2018
I have decided to write on this topic considering the fact that Nigerians keep fighting for selfish politicians who do not care about them. Having visited few countries outside Nigeria and observed the way things are done, I have come to the understanding that the Politicians know what to do to make the country better but has refused to do it for their selfish gain and interest.

A sincere leader who really wants a better Nigeria could address the major issues with good policies. If I were to contest for an election probably in the House of representative or senate these bills will be pushed forward;

1. On corruption: while corruption has eaten deep into the Nigerian system a basic policy reform is needed to bring it to a decline rather than chasing after stolen money. Nigeria is not the first corrupt nation and even countries tagged as world powers have corruption but it is on a minimal level.
First, all anti-corruption agencies should be scrapped with the creation of a new agency operated independently with the chairman chosen by a more democratic means rather than presidential appointment then a bill on cashless policy which basically will allow every transaction go through the bank or by card. Payment of cash can only be done to your personal account and a bank transfer will be needed to send money to another account. This means everyone has a bank account and cash movement can be tracked hence money laundering and other financial related crime can be easily investigated.

2. On election credibility and crime reduction: I decided to group both together because a single legislation can solve this problem. While we keep blaming foreigners for harm and complaining of illegal migrants from Chad and Niger, the solution seems to be simple. A sincere government only needs to create a well documented identity card for every citizen which should double as voters card. If BVN can be implemented, insisting on such card as a proper means of identification for anything within the country would ensure all citizens get it. Once you attain the age of 18, you should possess this card. However at birth, proper registration should be done for a child within the first week with a digital copy saved.
Although the effect of this policy might not be seen immediately, however, in the long run, we would have a good database of citizens and hence planning of social welfare program, insurance program and pension program can be easily deployed, implemented and tracked.

3. On security: without stressing on this because it has already been proposed by the vice-president, state and community policing is welcomed as it is easier to track criminals around you than people just posted to your area without prior knowledge. However, proper legislation needs to be drafted to ensure qualified people are recruited and hence this brings me to the final policy which bothers on the economy.

4. On economy: this area might require lots of legislation. Although, news have it that the economy is improving, the common man tends not to have a feel of the improvement. The quicker solution is to decentralize the system. While every state and region harness their resource and generate internal revenue for managing their area, a tax system paid by these states and region to the federal government should be implemented. Taxation of states should however be based on the resources the state has and its internally generated revenue.
The government can thus use those tax to carry out the federal projects and support states with very poor internally generated revenue. Note however that the decentralization of the system means each state can thus try to provide solution to its electricity and water problems so as to gain more revenue for the state. It would also force state and regional leaders to do their best to attract foreign investor.

With all this points raised, although it might not be a 4 years project but a party or politician that think towards this direction may be thinking towards the direction of better Nigeria. We are to old as a country for politicians to be campaigning with building of infrastructure or feeding the hungry. Now is the time to ask for policies that would build those infrastructures.

I would like to end by saying, while this things are simple, it may never be looked at because of greed and selfish interest. The only way to change the system is to develop policies that forces people to change else we are on course for doomday.

Better Nigeria,
God bless Nigeria.
