Uchechi said the Federal Government should say the truth about the whereabouts of her missing husband.

Uchechi Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu who's the missing leader of separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has vowed that there will be no election in 2019 if the Federal Government does not produce her husband.
In an interview with the BBC, published on Monday, February 19, 2018, Uchechi said the Federal Government should say the truth about the whereabouts of her husband who has not been seen in public since September 14, 2017.

She said, "In the next coming election, we need to have that in mind that for us to ever be better, we need to stand up.

"Yes, Nnamdi Kanu's issue should be the number one thing. Where is he? You need to provide him, at least tell us where he is.

"You need to at least do something before you run an election, otherwise we're not going to vote."

Uchechi also shed more light on her last interaction with Kanu, sticking with IPOB's stance that he was kidnapped by troops of the Nigerian Army.

She revealed that Kanu called her while soldiers stormed his father's compound in Umuahia, Abia to abduct him.

She said, "Nigerian Army should tell the world what has happened to him because they were the last people who were in touch with him. He was trapped in the house when they went to invade the house and that was when he called me.

"He says, 'Can you hear the gun shots?' I panicked and screamed, 'What's going on? What's going on?' He said to me, 'The military men are here; they're shooting.' Loads and loads of people lost  their lives and Nnamdi Kanu is nowhere to be found."

IPOB agitation not illegal
During the interview, Uchechi also dismissed concerns that Kanu's conduct as the leader of IPOB could be determined to be illegal.

"What makes it illegal? Why should that be treasonous? One asking for self-determination. Why is that a crime? It's not a crime," she said.

We're homeless - Uchechi
Uchechi also dismissed claims that Kanu left her in the United Kingdom to shield her from the consequences of his actions, arguing that his participation in the agitation is the ultimate sacrifice.

She said, "Do they even know what I go through? It's something I can't explain. My parents-in-law I don't know where they are. Nobody has a home. We're homeless. Is that not a sacrifice? We're suffering too. So, whereby he's in this very mission is the ultimate sacrifice."

Kanu's disappearance

Nnamdi Kanu has not been seen in public since an alleged attack on his father's compound by soldiers on September 14, and has missed a few court appearances since then. His parents, HRH Eze Israel Kanu and Lolo Sally, have also been missing since then.

His counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, stands by his claim that he's in custody of the military while the government has always maintained that Kanu has gone into hiding to avoid prosecution with other rumours circulating that he might have even escaped to the United Kingdom.

He was arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in 2015 and spent two years in custody until he was granted bail on health grounds in April 2017.

Due to the events that happened in September when IPOB members publicly clashed with soldiers, the activities of the group has been proscribed and it has been branded a terrorist organisation.
