Ngo... It's interesting that you watch
@Bourdain on CNN too. You seem
to love adventure as well! smiley

#PartsUnknown
@anthonybourdain

Aha!... Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown"
is a fantastic and stimulating program on
CNN which airs every Sunday. His pictures
are attached below on his visit to Lagos,
Nigeria which was aired as Season 10
Episode 3 on the 15th of October 2017!

I saw scenes of his visit to Lagos in Season
10 Episode 3 when he came for his
foodie/travel adventure. He also visited the
3 children of the world famous Afro-beat
music legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti at the
New Afrika Shrine. Yeni, Femi, and Seun
Kuti are music entrepreneurs as well which
was great! The Episode 3 was nicely made.

Just to add... the original Yoruba name
of Lagos is Eko. The European explorers knew
the "Island of Eko" as "Lagos Island" on their
maritime maps... and when British colonialism
began in the 1860s, the British simply retained
the name Lagos Island. So Lagos and Eko are
officially used interchangeably as of today.

Yes, I speak up to 3 languages fluently...
and because I'm adventurous, and love
to travel for business and leisure, French
has to be in the mix. I use a portable voice
"language translation device" for communicating
in French-speaking countries when I don't
have enough vocabularies to use in specific
situations! grin

Last but not least, don't get bothered or
nervous about the potential mega-earthquake
situation... I think your relatives are fine as of now
and they can use this information to create
"Plans B or C" in the short-term to medium-term
and NOT depend on staying in CA permanently!
They can make up their mindsminds based on
what they see or read on this thread.

Take care... Je t'aime! smiley

P.S. I love the colourful look of your
minestrone dish without meat. People have
to get used to eating less red meat or no meat at all
because excess red meat causes cancer... especially colon cancer. Plant-based protein substitutes and fresh fish containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils are
the real health food nirvana.

Didn't forget about this post my friend...
Definitely coming back to speak on this thread tomorrow (Thursday)...well it's already Thursday you guys' time...

Take care... Je t'aime! smiley

Oh Mr. Konquest.... these your 2 powerful closing French "sweet words".....
"Agape" all around right?..... grin

Konquest,

"Parts Unknown" is a very nice show. I'll be honest though.
For several years, I had no real desire to travel out of the U.S. for any reason.
I felt satisfied with North America only...but recently have had the urge to experience how other people live across the world.

I have seen a few places where Anthony Bourdain has visited.....and was impressed.

There are certain parts of the world that I would rather visit than others, but I just love how willing he is to just soak in the culture.

Interesting tidbits about Lagos....
Impressive that u speak 3 languages fluently.....u did say "fluently" correct? SO u speak and translate fluently?

P.S. Thanks for the info on the "Slavery" post....over in the Foreign Affairs section. I was gonna say something, but decide it's best to be silent. What I do know is that the effects, of the horrendous century of slavery, are still being felt and is a direct result of the confusion of the Black American race...it's so sad. But the info that was written on that thread doesn't shock or surprise me. It's on my mother's side of the family....virtually every Black American family has European lineage....

Do you want some "Ebonics"
in the "sweet words" mix too?
grin

Yeah! I speak 3 languages
fluently, and 2 other languages
are within the learning curve.
Being multilingual is good
for international travellers
and for getting international
jobs.

Ngo, I enjoyed all your views posted
here - on this thread... smiley

Be good to yourself and don't
forget the "aromatherapy"
thing that I told you to read
about online 2 weeks ago.

Although I am half Black American, if u sir, decide to tackle, conquer and speak in "Ebonics", I won't be able to understand...
I only understand human & civilized language...... smiley

Thanks for your compliment. I am just "me"...
I try to be as truthful as possible.
Speaking of "truth", thanks for the reminder about the "aromatherapy" thing you told me about back on Feb. 6th.....in that now permanently closed email address...
Maybe i misunderstood what u are trying to say, but that email had been at least 1 month and 4 days ago..since today is Feb. 10th.
So it wasn't 2 weeks ago....
U had written that in a post here in this section, but it is now deleted for some reason.

@MsNgo40

I was going to respond to this
earlier on, but I had some prior
engagements...

OK... one country that I think you
would LOVE to visit is Côte d'Ivoire
which is a beautiful country located
4 countries to the western part of
Nigeria. It is just next to Ghana.
The Baoule people and the Akan
people of Eastern/Southern Côte d'Ivoire
and Ghana are actually of the same
ethnicity/ancestry.

I first visited Abidjan in 1988. It is the
beautiful former capital of that country
and it's also known as the "Paris of Africa",
where the drivers obey traffic
lights even at night! When I visited
originally by air in 1988, from the airport
to the "Hotel Ivoire" where I lodged,
it was orderliness all the way.
The country is French-speaking
but some of them speak English
because it is taught in schools
and tourism is a major source
of income aside from being
the number 1 cocoa producer
and exporter globally!

The music iconic, Michael Jackson actually
stayed in the same hotel where I lodged
but that was during his first visit
in 1987. I have since visited that
country since 1988, and it hasn't lost
that orderly vibe as of 2018! smiley

Oh yes... I particularly love the episode
of "Parts Unknown" by Anthony Bourdain
when he visited "Koreatown" in Los
Angeles, California. It gave useful
insights into the Asian-American
subgroups and cultures. There
was something distinct about
Koreatown from the usual
"Chinatowns" around the world.
I actually love eating Korean food! grin
You need to see that episode as
well if you haven't seen it yet!

About the Foreign Affairs post, I think
NOT all African-Americans have
European blood. There are immigrants
from Jamaica and some majority
black Carribean island nations who
migrated to the U.S. that have NO mixed
African/European ancestries.

Some African-Americans also
have Native-American ancestries
based on the DNA test results that
I've seen since the late 1990s and
early 2000s from AfricaAncestry and
DNAland.

P.S. Ngozi, have you heard or read
about Africatown, near Mobile in Alabama?
The last slave ship [schooner] to ever
sail into the U.S. in the summer of 1860
from Quidah, Benin [former Dahomey kingdom],
Nigeria's next door neighbour to the West.
There were Africans of Yoruba,
Nupe [Tapa] and a Fon nobleman
all from present day Nigeria and Benin
Republics on board that slave ship named
"Clotilda" totalling 110! Charles Lewis [Pa Oluale]
who is in the 1st of 2 pictures that I
have attached below was of Yoruba
descent, his picture was taken in 1912
and his Yoruba name was Oluale.
Some of the 110 were Yoruba traders who were
on trading expeditions when they were captured in 1860 and taken to America on the infamous
"Clotilda."

Sylviane Diouf wrote the book
"Dreams of Africa in Alabama" and had it
published in 2007. It detailed out the struggles
of those brave young men and women and
children who were taken as captives from
West Africa in 1860 to Mobile,
Alabama. They all eventually
settled in Africa town, Alabama after
the U.S. Civil War of 1861-1865,
and they made attempts to go back
to West Africa but they had no
funds to do so.

I'll be visiting Africatown, Alabama soon to
pay a tribute to the memory of the brave
young men and women. You need to read
Sylviane A. Diouf's 340-page book to gain useful
historical insights into the "triumph of the human
spirit."

Enjoy your week! smiley

The Pacific Ring of Fire...

The Ring of Fire is an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
The Ring of Fire is the outcome of plate tectonics rubbing together. Tectonic plates are huge pieces of the Earth’s crust. The plates are constantly moving on top of a layer of molten rock, called the mantle. Sometimes these plates collide, move apart, or slide next to each other. When the tectonic plates clash together, they can create volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
