After a particularly long day at work, we’d all love to actually settle into a deep relaxing sleep moments after hitting the sack. However, if sleep doesn’t seem to be forthcoming even after taking a nice warm shower, reading the most boring book on your bookshelf and you still can’t sleep then you might just be suffering from insomnia.

Continue reading to discover some foods that are sure to induce a good night’s sleep.

Milk

Nothing works best than a tall glass of warm milk in making you drift off into blissful sleep before you can say, Jack Robinson! Thanks to the levels of amino acid tryptophan contained in milk and it stimulating the brain’s chemical serotonin.

Cereal

Not all carbs are effective in stimulating sleep so you might want to be wary of the types you opt for. Fortified cereal, barley or shredded wheat contains good carbs and to get the best of its sleep-inducing benefits add some milk.

Bananas

If you’ve always equated eating bananas with going bananas (crazy!) then you’re wrong after all. Bananas contain a good amount of magnesium and potassium which helps relieve stress levels and also relax the muscles, so you never can go wrong with munching on a bunch to get good sleep.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes also act as a natural stress reliever and muscle relaxant just like bananas. Regular potatoes also would do since it also contains potassium that promotes sleep.
