Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Roma goalkeeper Alisson with the Reds reportedly in advanced talks to sign the Brazil international.

Liverpool want Alisson to solve their goalkeeping conundrum with Simon Mingolet set to be shown the door and Loris Karius still striving for consistency.


The Reds have not had a solid No 1 since the days of Pepe Reina and, though they have been tipped to sign Keylor Navas and Jack Butland, Alisson is their top target.


And Brazilian website UOL Esporte say the Roma star is closing in on a sensational move to Merseyside.


The report claim Liverpool’s talks for the goalkeeper are in the advanced stages.


But the 25-year-old has made a move to Liverpool his priority in a stunning transfer twist.


Alisson has kept an impressive 14 clean sheets from 32 appearances so far this season.


And it appears that, if UOL Esporte’s report is to be believed, Reds fans can expect a tougher defence next term.


Meanwhile, BT sport pundit Owen Hargreaves has told Liverpool to do whatever it takes to secure Alisson’s signature.


“He’s brilliant,” Hargreaves said on BBC Radio 5 Live.


“Everybody is raving about Ederson, another Brazilian goalkeeper… these two players are exceptional.“


Liverpool desperately need a goalkeeper and he would be a record for a goalkeeper again.


“They need a goalkeeper, even though Karius has quietly done quite well, but he’s probably not at the level he needs to be if they want to win a Premier League and a Champions League title.”
