President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, February 26, urged member countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and stakeholders not to allow the receding Lake Chad Basin go into extinction because of selfish reasons.
The Nation reports that President Buhari who declared that in Abuja said the would pay dearly if the Lake dries up Buhari also warned against taking unilateral decisions by member countries to recharge the Lake through inter basin water transfer.
The conference had ‘Saving the Lake Chad to revitalize the basin’s ecosystem for sustainable livelihood, Security and development,’ as its theme. The president who was represented by vice president Yemi Osinbajo said the cooperation and collaboration that underpins efforts to save the Lake Chad should not be allowed to flop.
According to him, ''The world would pay a steep prize if stakeholders opted for unilateral actions in the pursuit of selfish interest if we collectively fail to rise boldly to this challenge of recharging the lake.''

Mumu President trying to defend his nativeland - Chad.
That's how he is wasting Nigerian Revenue to build Railway tracks from Niger Republic to Katsina. Of what benefits are these to us?
I blame the very porous and non existent borders in the north for the influx of Chadians and Nigeriens into Nigeria all because of Religion.
So many non Nigerians in Nigeria and even in Nigerian govt.

Please stop talking you're too ignorant for the discussion. He's talking about Lake Chad not Chad.

I'll tell you. First the water management is no exist leading to a tragedy of the commons. The states don't have water allocation policy, unregulated water use, unmonitiered water use, weak institutions and weak legal frame work. It's written in National Audit Report of Nigeria

The best solution is to have tradeable water market like Australia. That's give people incentive to use water effiently because if financial incentives. Then enforcement will be done more since people have clear stake. That should be done first or else who cares if they refillthe lake like the want to if people use water inefficiently.
