In 2015 it was news that there were three cars designed and made in Africa, like this should be news, given that Africans are engaged in auto mobile production abroad.

Retrospectively, On a visit to the Minister of Science and Technology in April 2016, Chief Innocent Chukwuma the first indigenous car Manufacturer in Nigeria revealed that 70 percent of materials used in Innoson vehicles are locally sourced and produced.

And although in 2013 Innoson unveiled the first ever Nigerian made cars, we would have expected that the auto mobile business would have flourished beyond what we have today, the question is why is it taking so long?

First We look at the epileptic power supply which can barely support households not to talk of supplying power to industries given that car manufacturing could make use of over 95.1 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity and 536,500 Btu of natural gas per square foot annually.
We are not even sure when this situation would be remedied.

The poor access to foreign exchange needed to import vital components like engines needed to manufacture cars.
It keeps fluctuating.

No favourable government policies to ensure that home-made goods are protected and patronized by all levels of government and her agencies, given that Nigerians are prone to importing rather than patronizing locally made goods.

Lastly but not the least is lack of well trained workforce or man power, it is no news that Nigerian Universities have been producing half baked graduates due to either striking of institutions, lack of research and development centers in Nigerian Universities or a stagnant educational curriculum.

What other factors do you think have contributed to the lack of auto mobile companies in Nigeria.
