Depression in Nigeria has become some sort of silent killer, at some point, it became a trend, we see people rant about their depressed state of mind on social media and the next time we hear about them, they have taken their own lives.
What is Depression?

Depression is a disorder that is evidenced by overly excessive sadness, loss of interest in daily life activities, low motivation and chronic negative mindset.

In life, it normal to occasionally have feelings of sadness and pain towards certain adverse life happenings such As loss, stress, major life changes or disappointment but there are times you feel happy and want to enjoy life’s goodness and forget whatever sorrow you feel or have felt. This kind of sadness is not sign of depression, it is only normal.

Depression is common, it is a medical illness, it is a debilitating mood disorder that is been in out of every 10 women and 1 out of every 10 men. It is a mood disorder that often makes life less interesting and makes people dealing with in want to end their lives when it is at the severe stage.
Symptoms of Depression

The symptoms of depression can be psychological or physical and mostly both are usually seen.

Psychological Symptoms

1. Loss of interest or pleasure in usual day to day lively activities.
2. Feeling miserable. This misery varies in intensity and could last for weeks.
3.Slowed or inefficient thinking with very poor concentration
4. Withdrawal from close family and friends
5. Suicidal thoughts. Thought that you are better off dead.
