Osun Decries Spate Of Teenage Pregnancies In Public Schools, Calls For Sex Edu. by OyiboUgbo04: 9:00am On Mar 03, 2018
Osun state government has expressed shock following report of teenage pregnancies in public schools in the state.

The government has however blamed teachers, parents, the pupils concerned and the society at large on the worrisome development.

This was made known at the meeting of the executive council of the state held on Thursday.

A release by the media adviser to the Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the state, Mr. Sola Fasure called on parents, teachers, health officials and medical organisations in the state to commence sex education and counselling in the schools immediately.

The government warned male residents of the state to desist from having sexual act with girl child less than the age of 18 stressing that it is a criminal offence.

The council urged school heads, teachers, parents and individuals in the state to report anyone caught sexually abusing or relating with pupils in the state.

The release reads: “Council noted with dismay the report of teenage pregnancies in public schools in the state and declared it a moral failure on the part of the parents, teachers, the pupils concerned and the society at large.

“Council urged parents, teachers, health and medical organisations to commence sex education and counselling in the schools immediately and warn the pupils of the dangers and consequences of engaging in sexual activities.

“Council also charged the girls to take charge of their bodies in order to protect their lives and secure their future.

“Council reminded the members of the public that it is a criminal offence to engage in sexual activities with a child less than 18 years of age and directed teachers, school heads, hospitals and medical institutions to report any such incident they observed to the authorities for criminal prosecution.”
