Double Wahala. A term well known amongst Nigerians of all classes. Coined by the late Afrobeats maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and reintroduced to younger audiences by Afropop crooner Oritsefemi, the term is at once one of intense determination as it is a call to action and a warning that things will not be taken lightly.

It is only fitting, therefore, that this term was chosen to depict the third season of Africa’s biggest reality show, Big Brother Naija. With more Housemates, a new House and even more to fight for, the stakes are much higher and there is more wahala this time; there is Double Wahala.

What’s more, the man charged with making this resonate with audiences all over is none other than Oritsefemi, whose chart topping rendition of the classic song remains a genre defining moment in the Nigerian, nay, African music industry.

Tasked with recreating the hit as a theme song for the show, Oritsefemi said: “Without a doubt, Double Wahala represents the spirit of determination, ambition, resilience and defiance that the average Nigerian possesses. It is exemplary of the drive, the hustle that we all show in our daily endeavor, and in this vein is the best song to represent the Big Brother Naija show. The Big Brother Naija theme song is a remix by Oritsefemi of his original song, and is sure to appeal to lovers of Nigerian music, given the genres increasing global popularity.
