Highlights From #SMWLAGOS 2018 African Women In Tech Day by postbox: 9:37pm On Mar 04, 2018
Yesterday marked the last day of #SMWLagos 2018 and we celebrated the African female movers and shakers who are breaking barriers in technology across Africa.

The Kinky Apothecary hosted Female African Powerhouses: Leveraging Social Media To Build Globally Recognised Brands, which featured African female tech leaders who talked about their obstacles and how they continue to leverage social media to build global brands.

Omolara Ajele Awoyemi, Country Manager at Jumia Pay also shared insights on tech career paths with attendees in her talk The Future is Female … Building a Career in Tech on Our Own Terms.

Can mothers actively participate in the business of innovation? If yes, how? That was the focus of the session How Mothers (& Every Woman) Can Leverage Community To Disrupt Any Industry. It shed light on the challenges of the 21st-century businesswoman and how to succeed in spite of it all … especially in fast-paced digital industries.

CNN also brought together rape survivors and activists on its panel The CNN Debate: How Can Social Media Be Used To Drive The African #MeToo Conversation? Although there is still a gap in the persecution of rapists and sexual abusers, social media movements like #MeToo and #NoMore can foster support and progress for victims as well as prosecution of the offenders.

The first ever #LaunchedInAfrica pitch day was also held and it featured African-led early-stage startups showcasing products and services that are disrupting industries across the continent. Congratulations to Aidahbot, a chatbot-building company that enables for small and medium businesses to automate sales, handle inquiries, and receive payment on Messenger, for winning the maiden pitch competition!

#SMWLagos 2018 ended spectacularly at SMW Grand Closing Party Prequel: #HangoutWithFidelity sponsored by Fidelity Bank. We look forward to #SMWLagos 2019 and can’t wait to see you again!
