There is an ongoing tug of war between the Ikorodu Muslim community and the traditional Osugbo cultists group in the area.

Sources told InsideMainland that the trouble started around November 2017 when the leaders of the Osugbo cultists group stormed the residence of one Hajia Riskat Jubril, a member of the Ridwanullahi Islamic Society, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland, asking her to succeed her mother who was a member of the group. The late mother, died three years ago.

According to a source privy to the happenings, Hajia Jubril was rescued by the Muslim community in Ikorodu at the time the Osugbo leaders stormed her residence. “She was only saved by the intervention of the Muslim leaders who rushed to the location to whisk her away into a secure location,” the source said.

“The Islamic society decided to give the Hajia an Islamic chieftaincy title in order to save her from those Osugbo cult group. This was done in the mosque and a public procession also held for the entire community to know that she now holds a Muslim title.

“However, the Osugbo group didn’t relent. They insisted that she must replace her mother in the group since she was nominated as her mother’s replacement before her death.”

Events took another turn when the Osugbo leaders heard that Hajia Jubril has become a Muslim title holder. “They come up with another trick that she hasn’t done her mother’s burial in accordance with the doctrines of the cultist group,” the source told InsideMailand.

“They insisted that she must come to their shrine, pay for the rituals and do the burial of her late mum which had already been buried accordingly.

“Last week they came to the Hajia’s house to create another form of disturbance. They threatened her that she must do their bidding. This prompted the Ridwanullahi society and IPMAN to report the matter to the Police station,” the source added.

InsideMainland gathered that the Divisional Police Officer in Igbogbo, Barracks, Ikorodu Division invited the concerned parties to his office last Thursday, March 1, 2018, where the Osugbo cultists also threatened her in presence of the Police.

The development, however, led to the Police operatives detaining some members of the Osugbo group with the case charged to court.
