January 1966 Coup Plotters Planned To Replace Balewa With Awolowo by igbodefender: 7:22am On Mar 08
cryIn January 6, 1966, a brave officer, Ademulegun was killed by junior officers whose stated aim was to put Awolowo in Balewa's seat. Awolowo was then in prison after being convicted for coup plotting in 1962.

Why did these people truncate our democracy in an attempt to put Awolowo into leadership undemocratically? Now we are all suffering for it.

Ademoyega, Ifeajuna, Nzeogwu, why didn't you guys wait till the next election to campaign for Awolowo? Which kain wahala be this na?

Judgement: the January 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup. If it was Ademoyega who participated and Nzeogwu would have told us.

Ironsi planned that coup hence, why he benefited from the coup and never punished the coup plotters.

Say what you know. Gowon was in charge of the investigation and submitted his report a day to the counter coup. Don't ou see the ploy?

Gowon was his junior hence, siding his boss.

To investigate a crime, you look at available evidence and whoever benefits from a crime is the prime suspect. Ironsi's action after he assumed power all points to the fact that he sponsored the coup.

The truth is that Zik, Awo, and Bello- especially Zik, created the problem

And greedy Nnamdi Azikwe would have kept quiet abi?

You can keep deceiving yourself and your likes, Yorubas know the truth and those who threw Nigeria into the mess she is today out of greed for power.

Idiots that asked GEJ to marginalize Yorubas now think they can sell Awo bullcrap to us.

That Ahmadu Bello you lots killed is why an Igbo man will never become president in Nigeria. You can write that down

Zik ambition destroyed his people, and by the time of Biafra, though courageous leadership occurred, it was already too late

Why did Awo's supporters in the military carry out a coup that killed many great Nigerians? The January 1966 coup plotters clearly stated that their aim was to make Awolowo Prime Minister. Awolowo was then in jail after being convicted of coup plotting in 1962.

Read Why We Struck by Ademoyega, one of the January 1966 coup plotters. Nzeogwu, Ademoyega, Ifeajuna and co should have retired from the army and campaigned for their hero Awolowo in elections, rather than carry out their coup.

Zik and other founding fathers gave you one of the greatest gifts known to man; political freedom. Don't blame him if you have misused it.

Without Zik, you probably wouldn't be able to enter Ikoyi today, unless as a houseboy, driver, etc., not to talk of buying house in Banana Island like Linda Ikeji.

Wrong. The so called founding fathers gave us the misery we have today by refusing to forgo their ambitions. Look at you talking about entering Ikoyi...Zik tried to do so by being Premier of entire Oduduwa and what happened?

Nonsense

Zik won that election because the average Yoruba person is decent and sophisticated and detribalized. But we all know what happened after he won. Lol.

Do you have any proff to buttress your claim i.e the election result? Somehow, i doubt it very much. It's been over 6 decades since the Act but you lost souls have been unable to present any undisputable evidence ( to back up your allegation) however that doesn't deter you lot from regurgitating the same fallacy ever since and to all and sundry.

Whatever transpired after the election was just a manifestation of your innate, warped and impish mindset.

So the (in)famous carpet crossing incident of 1951 is something you have never heard of?

You might just need to demand a school fees refund from your primary school. Heck, sue them for breach of contract.

Abeg, JSTFU!

And who has never heard about the lies you guys bundled together after losing out on dominating the yorubas in their own region. Bloody thieves!

All am asking for is the election result that shows conclusively that the greedy covetous ibos were about to win election in western region before the so-called carpet crossing occured.

And after googling, are you NOW able to produce the election results which shows conclusively that Zik and the NCNC won (or were about to win) the 1951 regional election in yorubaland which therefore necessitated the so-called "carpet-crossing"? or..........................
Re: January 1966 Coup Plotters Planned To Replace Balewa With Awolowo by FIDELITY24(m): 1:32am On Mar 10
The painful part of this coup is that it was termed an igbo coup and led to the massacre of many igbos living in the north, but the truth is that the plotters of the coup wanted to hand over power to a Yoruba man (Awolowo). The Yoruba's really betrayed the ibos by fighting against them with the hausa/fulani.

Bros, Zik's affiliated PARTIES won the election. But overnight some parties/people changed affiliation from NCNC to Action group.

The truth is that the plotters were young men who didn't have a clear agenda, except get rid of nepotism and corruption. Awo was not top of their agenda.

We are saying the same thing in a different way bro, they were tired of the level of nepotism and corruption in the country but they saw awolowo as a better option( someone who represent their ideal Nigeria).
