OOU Gets New VC | Print | E-mail Written by Yinka Olukoya, Abeokuta Ogun State governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has approved the appointment of Professor Adewale Are-Olaitan as the new vice chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University. Are-Olaitan, 45, who was the first best graduating student of the university, succeeded Professor Soga Sofola who had been serving in acting capacity since April 2009 when the former vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Odutola Osilesi, was sent on compulsory leave. A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Sina Kawonise, on Friday stated that Are-Olaitan, a Professor of Political Science, was appointed to further consolidate the repositioning and re-engineering of the institution. “The new vice chancellor is Professor Adewale Olaitan, the most outstanding graduate of the first set of graduates of the Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University,” the statement said. The statement also revealed that Olaitan had attended Ogun State University between 1982 and 1986 where he graduated with B.Sc (Hons) Political Science and the University of Ibadan between 1988 and 1998 from where he bagged M.Sc and Ph.D in Political Science. |

This can only happen in Nigeria. It is not as if the man concerned is a hot-headed scientist, engineer or inventor. He is a mere political ''scientist''. Jesu kristi. Nigeria=mediocrity. |

lol. . . . .So political scientists are not qualified to be VC? How about if the school is a strictly social science school like say the london school of economics. I bet you would want them to draft in a pharmacologist like Maurice Iwu abi to head it. |
