Is burning dirt now a good thing? Is that not respiratory disease waiting to happen? They've started something good and it will soon get better.
Sapiosexuality:
This is annoying. The cleaner Lagos thing is making Lagos stink. This is what I mean.

About three weeks ago the street here was free of dirt. It was clean and the people burnt and disposed off dirt themselves. But since these guys at Cleaner Lagos brought their trash cans the stink around here got heavier.

Now people who used to burn and dispose their dirt faraway from residential areas bring out the shi't for the cleaner Lagos people.

The trash is full within hours and Nigerians, acting with insane spirits, drop dirt around the trash can. The CL guys are not responsive and the dirt pile up and the stink begins to change lives.

If LASG wants this to work, these new guys in charge have to improve on the frequency of disposing waste. Two times a day isn't bad and will really improve the city.

This one seems like once in a week and before they show up the place is already contaminated. The sand fly and rats in Lagos are too much and we can't afford to add more.

Bism:
Dont only put the blame on the company. what about lagosian response to a clean environment. Last year when rain water flooded some part of lagos, was it our lagos rodent that filled the drainage with waste material. We have a poor atitude as individual to waste management and government as a hole should look into the production of more eco - friendly goods.

na wa o. Anybody that wants to make a difference in Nigeria must chop liver. The company hasn't worked up to three months and you want them to perform magic. You keep saying that Lagos was never this dirty. Are you sure or it's just that Lagos has never had this number of 'news carriers' and camera phone owners?

Lagos will be fine. Good things takes some work. The places below were cleaned in Ajegunle today. church street and ariyo street. send any uncleared spot to their twitter handle for help @vshelpline

I am impressed with your level of awareness and thorough thought process. The waste is gradually making it's way into bins and not gutters and canals.
All that is needed are more bins, and more fleet to cart the waste off the streets. It will always look like this for a while till they it right.
ModsWillKillNL:

The PSPs failed ab initio as a result of the recession.
They just couldn't meet up.
But to be honest, I can see sweepers everywhere I find myself trying to clean the whole place.
The gap that needs to be filled ASAP is emptying the bins promptly.

I appreciate your opinion. Every developmental process will come with its own challenges.. Nigerians and Lagosians will have to learn how to properly make use of these bins. Bag your waste before thrashing, that way you won't have it littering everywhere. We always enjoy bashing the government. This for me is a more sustainable way of managing Lagos waste. Rather than dump in drains and canals, they are putting in bins. First battle is won.

What good will the number do anyone? Was it the phone holder who did not properly handle their trash? Whoever picks the phone wasn't the one who threw PET bottles out of the car/bus because it was convenient. He/She as sure as hell didn't say for them not to at least pay their taxes. And aren't people employed in the new system? We are funny in this Nigeria. That's how we were shouting - not too young to run. Mr. FD got up and you people now said, he needs experience. He is not qualified. What exactly do we want? Olusosun was on fire for days. That place is a disaster. This whole plan is to overhaul the system.
Everything good takes time. This is not about putting the govt in good light. It's being objective enough to not throw the baby out with the bath water. All may not have been done well. It doesn't mean that its all bad and should be scrapped.

You guys just talk like the rest of us dont also live in Lagos. I passed through Ojuelegba every day. Even today when I passed, there was still a big heap of refuse there just like it is in the picture the OP posted. Why cant you people just accept that criticism is good for the government. People like you are the problem of Nigeria. Your kind protect and defend incompetence in government. It is really sad.

You can take pictures of dirty areas and tag @cleanerlagos on twitter but no... You get paid to sabotage the efforts of Visionscape. Look at the bins everywhere, see their new trucks, see the landfill site at Epe... These people have invested billions into ensuring a cleaner Lagos... But we are so impatient... These people ain't magicians...they are not even up to 1 year and we are labelling them failures.... Whatever happened to the factor of time.

This is creek road, Apapa...i sent a picture to them of refuse heaps and they cleared it in less than 24 hours. That's what we as citizens should do... Help them ensure a cleaner Lagos by tagging them to dirty spots

Who are the people employed? LAWMA was doing a good job. They brought in VS like those ones will bring people from heaven. Were you not aware when lawma sweepers weren't getting paid? You don't understand the politics of this thing - it's not black and white theory of effects of change. It's pure evil

When Lagosians were complaining a lot two years ago, government kept mute until it was revealed that Vision scape had taken over. Common how can lawma regulate just one company? These guys are just wicked. They're using our lives to play ludo. It's not about patience or all those stuff.

LAWMA is more of a rubber stamp than agency now. The visionscape guys registeres their Nigerian office the year ambode won and you're telling us to chill. Didn't they have a plan? Was taxpayers money paid for thejr contract in order for them to use us to do IT?

What kind of people are employed? There's nothing objective if the government was not transparent about the whole process in the first place. That throws every sincerity of their actions in doubt

Oga, keep qwayiet dia! angryTag who? When they applied to take over a multimillion naira contract to clean a city like Lagos, why didn't they do their homework? Don't they have a map of all the streets in Lagos and the refuse dumps on each street? Didn't they understudy the PSP operators to know their weaknesses and strengths, so they could capitalise on it and prevent themselves from repeating the mistakes of their predecessors?

Who cares about how many bins Visionscape drops on the road? shocked We are saying they should clear the garbage promptly, instead of decorating our roads with bins that cannot contain all the wastes, on our streets. For over 6 weeks, no garbage truck came to the inner streets of our district, to clear refuse. We heard the PSPs had been chased away, and Visionscape was now in charge. Do you know what they did? They put just a few waste bins on the expressway which is far from the inner roads, and expected people to carry their garbage bags all the way to the bins on the express, for disposal. sad

After a few weeks when it was clear that the arrangement was not working, and the filth was piling up faster than it could be evacuated, we called back our former PSP to resume the former arrangement, and made out new terms for their direct payment. Now our former PSP picks up our garbage from our doorstep like it used to, in the old days, and our inner streets are now much more cleaner than they were, before Visionscape's new arrangement almost turned our neighbourhood into a den of refuse. angry

you can tell Ambode has little or no concern for environmental protection and improvement ...first he cancels monthly sanitation which is what mandates the average lagosian to clean their rooms now see the after effect? 2ndly the transition from LAWMA to Vision Scape was not properlly handled haba!!!!

Bumping this thread.

I wonder if trash is still a major issue in Lagos. Is VisionScape now doing a better job and coping with the over 10,000 tons of waste generated in Lagos daily? Is LAWMA now scraped?
