Financial Digest Analysis of the report released by the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System’s(NIBSS),indicated that as at February,2017,71%(69.78million) of Nigerian Bank customers are Savings Account holders,whilst Current account holders (25.11million) constitute 26%.

Total bank customer accounts, was put at 97.57million, an indication that only 2.68million (3%) were Fixed Deposit and other account holders.The total bank customer accounts as at December 2016 ,was slighly lower at 96.22million.

However, out of the 97.57million bank accounts, only 67.2million (69%) were active and thus, 30.37million accounts were dormant. Dormant accounts are very potent avenues for perpetuating frauds in the banking industry.

Also only 51.72million (53%)were linked to BVNs out of the 97.57million bank accounts.

Total POS terminals deployed nationwide, amounted to 140,448, as at September, 2017.
