Lagerback has been speaking with quite a number of Nigerian players across Europe and has listed 44 players from which the final 23-man squad for South Africa 2010 will be picked from. A provisional 30-man squad list will be sent to FIFA as mandated by the world’s soccer ruling body on May 11, a month to the start of the World Cup and Lagerback would have to axe 14 players from his large list.

Who are the 14 players you think he will Axe from this list?

Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israel), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda, Israel), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petah Tikva, Israel), Greg Etafia (Moroka Swallows, South Africa) and Bassey Akpan (Bayelsa United, Nigeria)

I have watched him play ever since he came back from injury.
He's been very effective and efficient.

@12large You got me wrong,by May 11th Lagerback needs to prune his 44 man list and submit a provisional list of 30 to Fifa, without any friendly played or camping,so realisticly he will need to drop 14 players, these are the 14 players  i believe he will drop is what i meant:

Goalkeepers:

1.   Bassey Akpan (Bayelsa United, Nigeria)

Defenders:

2.   Olubayo Adefemi (US Boulogne, France), Netherlands),
3.   Terna Suswan (Lobi Stars, Nigeria),
4.   Sam Sodje

Midfielders/Forwards:

5.   Brown Ideye (FC Sochaux, France),
6.   Femi Ajilore (Groningen, Netherlands),
7.   Joseph Akpala (FC Brugge, Belgium),
8.   Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine),
9.   Onyekachi Okonkwo (FC Zurich, Switzerland),
10.   Omatsone Aluko (Aberdeen, Scotland),
11.   Solomon Okpako (Kano Pillars, Nigeria),
12.   Bartholomew Ibenegbu (Heartland FC),
13.   Michael Eneramo (Esperance, Tunisia)
14.   Yakubu Aiyegbeni,

He wouldn't have time to even access them except by tapes he watches or what he is told,so i'm speculating he will drop these  14 and allow the others 30 fight for a shirt under his watchful eyes, from which he will eventually drop 7,and be left with 23 he will presecute the WC with.I love Nigeria ooh! just my thinking.

I pray he doesnt axe victor anichebe.

@ henry101
I have been watching Anichebe too,and he may make the final 23,if he proves to be a better and more effective winger than Obasi,Nsofor,Osaze, but to make it as a striker may be near impossible because like i always say Lagerback can only go with 23.

The 14 "axed"-to-be players in bold:

Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israel), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei Yehuda, Israel), Austin Ejide (Hapoel Petah Tikva, Israel), Greg Etafia (Moroka Swallows, South Africa) and Bassey Akpan (Bayelsa United, Nigeria)

Like it or not guys, Kanu WILL BE in the 30-man list (not so sure for final 23). The Yak will be in SA. You all know it deep down. However, based on current form, he will not be an automatic starter. I tip Kalu Uche and Victor Anichebe (or Ike Uche if fit) up front, 4-4-2 style. cool

@Iyineda Is Kalu Uche a striker or a an attacking Midfielder?I believe he will play just behind 2 strikers Ike Uche and Martins or Martins and Peter Utaka in a 4-3-1-2 formation.Victor Anichebe may make it in the final 23 but may be used more on the wings,if he proves more efficient than Nsofor,Ogbuke and Osaze in that role, which i highly doubt.Going by what Lagerback said he likes to mix things up,like having a fast small striker and a big striker,in that case Yakubu or Victor Anichebe may make the final cut.
