Makings of Google Glass

Ever wondered what happened to Google Glass ? There was a huge buzz about the Glass and it was touted as a technological breakthrough. Well a couple of issues were responsible for the quick demise of the Glass, despite the promising features it held.

First, it was quite expensive. It sold for about $1160. Secondly, it didn't have a well defined market strategy. And Google Glass Explorer had too many applications and functions and it was quite distracting. Thirdly, there were conflicting reviews from consumers. Some people complained about having headaches while getting used to the Glass. While others became addicted to its use.

However the price tag and the skeptical rejection of technological based on superstitious beliefs made sure, this product never made it to Africa. Of course, there's the fact that even when the Glass was on sale to the public, there were only 4 stores in the world, to purchase the Glass. The stores were in the major cities: New York, Los Angeles, London & San Francisco. This does not mean there were no other smart glass products at the time, the failure of the initial Google Glass Explorer meant that the market demand for smart glasses stalled.

The idea behind the aversion to widespread launch by concerned interests in the smart glass industry was, if Google as a big tech company was shutting down sales as it did in 2015, then the Smart Glass Industry was not ready for consumers.

Redesigned for Efficiency

However Google only stopped selling the Google Glass openly. Research was going on a second launch targeted at creating a new Google Glass. With a new focus of creating a business tool and not a personal gadget. The arrangements for these included, taking on partners. Some partners created the hardware and different partners developed the software and applications relevant to specification.
