Situations like this abound in most rural schools across the length and breadth of the state.

Governments after governments have been doing little or nothing to uplift primary education in the state. This particular govt in the state is overwhelmingly guilty of gross negligence. Why go ahead to build abandoned Model schools when the current schools are in ruins?

Btw where are the alumni of the sch?

Kikikikikiki. grin cheesy

So sad that one has to laugh to preserve one's sanity.

It is like about the year 1900, around the setting of Achebe's Things Fall Apart.

At least the kids can get fresh air in stead of suffocating in damp, jam-packed, sticky hot classrooms.

What do you expect from a sh!thole where 7% is budgeted for education..?

A country where those who steal our collective wealth boast freely on the streets and media, send their kids abroad and when they are back, the kids are automatically given waivers from NYSC just because their dads are VIPs.

Show me how many of the politicians children that has ever gone for service.... NYSC is for the poor.!!
I Thought things like this happens only in the north as most people think and believe.

Re: Ogun School Where Pupils Learn Under Mango Tree Despite N30M Allocation by AFONJAPIG(m): 9:04am On Mar 24, 2018
you can never see this kind of school in south east... even in the remotest village in ebonyi state , rate of pupil in government own school in east has decline tremendously , everybody want his kid to attend private owned schools and acquire quality education, I don't knw why some ppl claim sophisticated online while their relatives schooled in such a dirty and unhygienic environment.... Yoruba land still has a long way to go
Re: Ogun School Where Pupils Learn Under Mango Tree Despite N30M Allocation by mjabdulk: 9:19am On Mar 24, 2018
so this kind of school exists in yoruba land too where yorubas claim to be most knowledgeable in nigeria. corruption is everywhere, if someone decides to help them now, he/she may be bycotted or stopped by those in govt by saying they will do it. i wonder next election how politicians will go their and campain

Akere, a riverine community located in the interiors of Idiroko LCDA, Ipokia Local government Ogun state boasts of a population of 3000 inhabitants. The community which shares boundaries with Badagry in Lagos State and Benin Republic, is home to the Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Akere. The primary school provides elementary education to children in the community as well as other neigbouring villages namely Wheke, Ilasa, Ajaluto, Gbodota and Zebe, despite it decrepit state.

When Tracka, a community of active citizens tracking the implementation of government project visited the school on 20th September, 2017, the learning condition was found to be totally horrendous. About half of the school’s population were seen learning outside the classrooms under the scorching sun without any protection over their heads, save a Mango tree which about three out of six classes were made to seek shelter under.

Ogun School

The failure of government to deliver on its expected duties over the school has resulted into most of the children in the community going as far as Apapa and Badagry in Lagos State which is about 30 minutes ferry across the ocean. The only private school in the community built by the Redeemed Christian Church of God is beyond the reach of many parents in the community.
During a recent visit, Tracka observed that the sad condition of the school has been further aggravated by the removal of the roof of one of the tattered classrooms by the State Universal Basic Education Board.

It was also observed that six to seven pupils sit on a bench meant for two pupils while others resort to sitting on the bare floor. There is also deficiency in staff strength as only four class teachers cater for six classes with one Assistant Head teacher and one Head teacher. Also, the classroom floors are bare and sandy, predisposing pupils to health hazards.

It was also learnt that he headmaster from his meager earnings single handedly concretized the floor of the class for the primary one pupils due to his awareness of their high susceptibility to feeble pathogens. The Head teacher’s office was seen under the mango tree, the school has no store and, in the process, most of the government owned books given to the school have been stolen. Again, the state’s intervention project by SUBEB which was donated in 2012 has remained uncompleted, the last furniture given to the school by this body was in 2007.

The Tracka team sensitized the school and community on the proposed project for the school which is the ‘Renovation of Blocks of 8 Classrooms in Akere, Agosasa, Ajegunle and Idogo’ for N30M. This could in turn be interpreted as renovation of a block of two classrooms for a sum of Seven million and five hundred thousand naira at each of the four schools. The disclosure of this information impulsively raised the people’s hope, but Tracka maintained that they must inform their representative of the awareness of the project and demand implementation and they did.

Ogun School

However, feedback from the community leader, Chief Gandonu Joseph has not been positive as he stated that Hon. Akinlade Adekunle Abdulkabir, the law maker representing the area in the National House of Assembly, Abuja neither pick calls nor respond to messages–a development which started since the community became aware of the project.

The situation in Akere is not in tandem with what is obtainable in other part of the state as projects that have not yet been completed are either ongoing or close to completion in most cases. It is also expected that the state government ought to have prioritized the renovation of some of the ebbing schools, rather than embarking on new school projects in the state.
Tracka and the community are highly expectant that the community’s awareness about the school project would eventually translate into the implementation of the projects both at Akere and the remaining three schools.

buhari is cutting a small cake.. because the military/police most administrate 24 states.. federal republic stats have been reduced from 35 states to only 12 states.

federal republic.. means no military, no police.. so the schools and hospitals etc in 24 states most be administrated by military and police officers.

Wow and people wonder why we are angry?

Are children learning under a tree in South Korea or Dubai?

The current elite better start doing things properly or the people will eventually remove them.

I dont want Atiku or Buhari, we need new blood like Donald Duke..

Atiku will even be hundred times worse than buhari. In short he will sell off Nigeria to China once he gets into office.unfortunately the tribalism dat is so indepth in Nigeria might prevent a man like duke taking over the helm of affairs.the way i see it, it will be one of Nigeria's recycled old leaders taking over or buhari winning a second term and Nigeria will be worse off than the way it currently is.

Nope, Atiku will be far better than Buhari, Buhari is not intelligent and an ethnic champion that's why Nigeria isn't progressing. Atiku has built multi billion empire from scratch, my only problem is that he is a very greedy man that will embezzle a lot of money. He is a detribalized Nigerian that knows how to recruit quality people

If you need another evidence that Nigeria - the ANT and SHAME of Africa is irreversibly doomed - here you go. Kudos to those children and their teachers who in spite all odds still take education seriously. Shame to the local, state and federal government for allowing this to happen. The fact that it's happening in the 21st century says something about the current and future state of Nigeria as a country. Mark it, some of these children would go on to become great whilst some of the children of politicians whose parents embezzled public fund to sponsor their children's education abroad would eventually face their karma - Kemi Olunloyo on my mind as I write. Of course, I can site countless examples. No one plants banana and reaps oranges. Children learning under mango trees risked snake bites, fallen branches, rainwater, etc, etc. This is unfair and those who allow this to go on unchecked would surely face their karma sooner or later.

that's what i am trying to hit at. Atiku is corrupt to the highest order and will rob nigeria blind while buhari on the other hand is tribalistic and a non progressive. Both of them are not good. Nigeria needs a progressive mind like Donald Duke.

The money to repair that school and many other's are under the beds, farms, water tanks of Gbenga Daniel and Amosu and in cemeteries near to them. If Gbenga had allowed Ipokia man to rule i'm very sure the man would have turned Ipokia and other villages to small London. The governors and senators are fantastically rogues.
