It was bedlam this morning in Lagos as Lagosians battled to beat the traffic restrictions necessitated by the two days official visit of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Residents especially those travelling out of Lagos who thought by leaving there homes as early as 5am would help, were thoroughly disappointed as they discovered that security operatives had  blocked key roads in the city.

All vehicular traffic on the very busy Mobalaji Bank Anthony Rd was blocked and passengers going to the airport had to trek all the way from areas like Maryland, Opebi and Oshodi.

All entreaties to security agents to give passengers who had tickets for early flights access to the airport fell on deaf ears.

Frustrated passengers who were sweating as result of walking long distances by foot, were heard raining curses and abuse on President Buhari, Lagos State Governor Ambode and the ruling APC.

At the Murtala Muhammed Airport an enraged Kayode Olukunle who said he was an Abuja bound passenger told signaturetv.com.ng that he trekked from Ladipo Bus Stop on the Agege Motor Rd to the airport.

“What point is Governor Ambode trying to make? Is he saying he loves Buhari more than the rest of us. Why would he put Nigerians through this kind of suffering?And the President sees this and keeps quiet? Honestly this Buhari is wicked”.

In a telephone discussion about 6 am with a very high ranking Buhari aide who wishes not to be mentioned by name, signaturetv.com.ng was told that the city lockdown was the idea of the Lagos State Government that had nothing to do with the Presidency.

He said it was to avoid situations like this that the President was always reluctant to visit Lagos.

He told this channel that the President’s entourage would be leaving for the Abuja airport about 8am.

At the Ikeja  airport some airlines rescheduled their flights to accommodate late arriving passengers while passengers whose flights left on schedule without them, were seen making alternative travel plans.

Meanwhile the hiccups notwithstanding, many Lagosians are still upbeat over the President’s visit.

Major streets are decorated with banners and billboards welcoming the August visitor.
