WAEC May Now Ban You For Years If You Cheat -communiqué by Omonaijani: 4:49pm On Apr 05, 2018
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says it will henceforth meet out stricter punishment to candidates who engage in various forms of examination malpractices and these new sanctions may include banning the candidates for years, this was contained in a communiqué at end closing of the 65th Nigeria Examination Committee (NEC) meeting in Lagos, Nigeria. (a copy of the Communique is shown below and can be found here)

The communiqué which was signed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijieogu reads in part: “In the course of considering various reported cases of malpractice, the committee, after diligent deliberations approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the council’s examination.

“It approved the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attract cancellation of entire results (CER) while subject results of those involved in proven cases which attract cancellation of subject results (CSR) be similarly cancelled.

“In addition, some candidates will also suffer other sanctions such as barring them from sitting for the council’s examinations for a certain number of years.

“The decision of the committee will be implemented without delay and the affected candidates and examination centres duly informed by the council. However, the results of candidates who were exonerated by the committee will be released.”

If you sat for the recently concluded WAEC Examination, you may want to check your waec result here to know if you’ve been hit by the new penalty:

"Custody Fee" for certificate of more than 4 years

WAEC says it now charges an unspecified "Custody Fee" for certificates that have stayed more than four years with the Examination body, this was in reply to tweet from a candidate who was seeking to know what to pay to get his WAEC Certificate, though, WAEC charges N3500 for the certificate, but if the certificate has stayed in their custody for more than four years, Custody Fee would apply.

The body urges candidates who are sitting for the WAEC Examination starting today to obey the rules & regulations guiding the conduct of the examination including the rule that says candidates should keep their mobile phones & other electronic gadgets at home.
