Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has rated Isoko North Local Government Council under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor as the best council among the 25 local government councils in terms of health sector initiative in the state.

He said that Isoko North council has a record of an unequal performance in the healthcare sector.

Speaking during the Isoko North Local Government Council free medical treatment programme held at Ozoro today, Senator Okowa who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye at the flag-off ceremony, commended the effort of the chairman of Isoko North local government council in the area of initiating free healthcare delivery for his people. "I don't think there is any other in the 25 local government councils in this state that has done the much that Isoko North council has done in free quality healthcare services to her people", he remarked.

The Governor expressed happiness that the chairman has helped in no small measure towards achieving the Universal Health Coverage. While appreciating the contribution of the chairman, he scored the council "as the first amongst others in the health sector initiative.
He said what the government is looking for in the health sector is Universal Heath for all Deltans, irrespective of where you are and what you do. He further said that what the chairman is doing is in line with the state healthcare program, promising that "for this reason, the state would pay special attention to the health sector in the local government."

The Isoko North Free Medical Treatment was organized by the council in collaboration with Healing Hands Health Society and Yes Advocacy.

In his welcome address, Egbabor said the free medical treatment was designed to join the rest of the world to mark the 2018 World Health Day with the theme: Universal Health Coverage; everyone everywhere.

While thanking the partnering agents, Healing Hands Health Society and the Yes Advocacy for choosing Isoko North for this exercise, the chairman stated that the "health of men, women, children, the aged and adolescents is one of the most prominent and pressing agenda of this present administration in line with the SMART Agenda of the Okowa administration."

He stated that the exercise is targeted to attend to 5,000 people irrespective of local government of origin.
However, the turnout for the flag-off ceremony was overwhelming as over 670 persons were registered, 226 patients treated with 11 cases identified for surgery, with more being expected for the next four days.

Hon. Tim Owhefere, majority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, while giving the vote of thanks, commended Egbabor for thinking outside the box by initiating programme that has direct positive impact on the people. He commended Governor Okowa for his achievement so far in the state.

Meanwhile, in a good will message, the President General of the Isoko Development Union, IDU, Hon Chief Iduh Amadhe thanked the council boss for the initiative and his readiness towards adding value to the health of his people. He also thanked the Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the rehabilitation of one of the hospitals in Isoko.
