Arsene Wenger believes the Premier League is “behind the rest of the world” following the decision not to implement VAR in next season’s top flight.

Premier League clubs voted on Friday that the much-debated video assistant referee system will not be used in the competition next season as testing continues in cup games.

The Gunners had penalty appeals denied during their loss to Newcastle United, leaving the manager unhappy with the lack of technological support

The decision infuriated Wenger after the match and he blasted the Premier League for choosing not to use video technology.

“The referee is the referee. What you want is to help the referees. Unfortunately the Premier League has again decided not to go for VAR and personally I believe that is a very, very bad decision,” Wenger told a news conference.
