Good afternoon nairaland, please i just finished my studies outside Nigeria and seeing the huge potential in Nigeria when it comes to agriculture, I would like come back to set up an agricultural commodities trading company where I would buy goods directly from the farmers and the sell them in markets and companies that use these goods.

For now I want start with onions and maybe rice before going into palm oil and other farm products. Since i've been outside the country for a while now, i was only able to do my research online and I found that Aleiro in Kebbin State is where to go to if you are looking to get Onions and sell them in southern parts of the country.

Please I still need more information about this kind of business from anyone that is already into it. I would like to know the risks involved and a few other things. Thank you very much.

Please which commodities are not highly perishable and you would recommend I start with.. and I don't have the luxury of huge capital so I might not be starting of with owning a means of transport and storage facility. Thank you for your response..

It is profitable if you have the technical know-how, target market, and more importantly a standby vehicle for transportation. Now, i dnt mean u have to purchase a transporting truck b4 u can succesfully run the business. Although, u may get to a level in the future where u wud eventually need ur own truck/vehicle so im not entirely rulin out u needin a truck but for startup, i dnt think u need one.
I would also advice u work on produce that are not easily perished as i think onion is one of those. But like i said, u need technical know-how on how to go about this business b4 u can venture into it. And it may intrest u to know that u would need to work with alot of produce if u intend to keep the income streaming in as most if not all of this agricultural produce have a specific moment of the year in which they are safe to invest in. Still, u need to get in the country, make som surveys then decide. If u need to ask more questions, You can reach me through whatsapp on 07037730319.

rice you mentioned earlier is cool and can last for a long time even if the means of trnsporting breaks down on transit. grains are very easy to deal with. also sesame, melon seed. don't try tomatoes, and be wise with yam.
