The Delta State Government has said that necessary steps will be taken to bring succour to the victims of rainstorm disaster at Emevor, Isoko North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Barr. Ernest Ogwezzy, stated this when he visited the community to ascertain the extent of damage by the rainstorm.

Describing the rainstorm which destroyed several buildings in the community including classroom blocks at James Welch Grammar School and over ten electric poles as monumental and devastating, the Commissioner sympathized with the victims and the entire community over the unfortunate incident.

He, however, thanked God that no life was lost, and that there was power failure as at the time the rainstorm wreaked havoc on the community.

Ogwezzy, who was accompanied on the visit by a Director in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Karo Ovemeso and other staff of the Agency, appealed to the victims to be patient, saying that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration is passionate about the welfare of all Deltans, and as such will do the needful in no distant time to cushion the effects of the disaster on them.

"My on the spot assessment visit to Emevor today is to see the extent of damage by the rainstorm on the community, it is quite a collosal and a monumental loss. On behalf of the Governor, i sympathize with you. Having seen the magnitude of the damage by the rainstorm, i will report to the Governor when i get back to Asaba", he inferred.

In his remarks, Chief Joseph Ogedegbe whose house was affected, thanked the Commissioner and the State Government for the assessment visit ans appealed to the State Government to come to their aid, saying that the devastating effect of the rainstorm was too much for them to bear.

Speaking when the Commissioner and his entourage paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, the Odion of Emevor Kingdom, HRM Ovie Solomon Onovughakpo also applauded the Commissioner and the State Government for the visit, saying that the assessment visit was a pointer to the fact that present administration is responsive and proactive.

The Monarch who lamented the rainstorm disaster in his Kingdom, equally appealed to the State Government to come to the aid of the victims in order to ameliorate their plight.

Our correspondent reports that high tension electric poles and cables that incurred the wrath of the rainstorm were still resting on the roofs of the affected buildings as at the time of filing this report.
