If you are not willing to put in the work it takes to achieve your political goals, pick up arms to fight the government. Those are the only 2 ways to achieve your objectives. Else, stop disturbing the rest of the country with all the noisemaking. Sometimes, I believe IPOB and their sympathizers don't really care about Nigeria breaking up. They just like to give that illusion because it earns them attention. They're basically just attention-seekers. Ndigbo do not really want to split from Nigeria.

Let us stop deceiving ourselves. The Biafran aspirations sound good as an abstract idea, but the practical realities doesn't show in any way that Igbos are interested in such a schism. We are the most nomadic tribe in Nigeria with trillions of Naira of investments around the country. It's like the funny case of my elder sister in the UK who is an Nnamdi Kanu supporter - yet, she and her husband are talking of moving back to Nigeria and the business she's setting up in Nigeria is in Lagos. That is the typical hypocrisy in pushing abstract ideas without following what you preach. This is why the entire Igbo intelligentsia, corporate executives and businessmen, industrialists, politicians etc have been utterly silent about these Biafran aspirations. Cos they really do not give a shiit. If you can't even get the elites on your side, you are already defeated and just making noise. Unlike say Catalonia where many of their politicians are separatists and many of their intellectuals, authors, artists, filmmakers, businessmen, and even footballers like Pique and Guardiola are pro-Catalonia separatists. Yet, you can hardly get any Igbo of note to speak for you and a jobless charlatan from London had to lead the movement.

IPOB is an intellectually lazy movement. And until they have something to offer beyond noisemaking, they're just politically irrelevant nuisances.

What some don't understand is that IPOB/MASSOB or whoever are brands. The key members of these brands depend on maintaining a facade of authenticity if they are to remain relevant. Aligning with IPOB on any political cause is likely to fail because many figures within the ranks would see this as diluting their brand and relevance. This cooperation can only work if they have lucrative offers (like the newly minted super-wealthy former Niger Delta militants), but they have little political leverage to be worthy of such an investment.

Not to mention that IPOB have no strategic thought in their heads. Which is why despite all the grassroots support they mobilized, they are more a political nuisance than power brokers. If they had coherent strategies to advance their cause, their movement could have brought a real revolution to the SE, Ndigbo and Nigerian politics as a whole, but they were too myopic and lost in their own myth-making to think of how to harness their power. Osita Chidoka who ran a good campaign and positioned himself as a champion of IPOB got barely above 1% of over 400,000 votes in the Anambra guber elections, because the people he thought he was fighting for somehow thought it wise to try to stop people from voting.

What I still want to find out from IPOB and their sympathizers is how they intend to make their fantasies come through. Since you reject the Nigerian political process, surely they only other way to achieve your objectives is war. Yet, they also claim to be a non-violent movement. So if you eschew politics, and eschew violence, how exactly do you hope to accomplish this your referendum and your Biafran paradise that you dream of?

I can feel your passion here. However, I’ll like to suggest that both your angst and fears are slightly misdirected. NK would not have any valid reasons to call for election boycotts if the integrity of the electoral process was beyond reproach.

Those of us that live in the SE are aware of how the PDP kept “winning” elections here. Even before NK started talking about election boycotts, a large proportion of voters were already fed up with the repeated disenfranchisement. They just reasoned that there was little value in voting when some powerful individuals will go ahead to declare some predetermined results.

I personally find it fitting that the same PDP politicians who benefited (and assumed prominence) from these electoral charades are the same ones likely to lose the most from m reduced voting in the SE. I will be a hypocrite if I pretended to be unhappy about it. This is clearly poetic justice, if such a thing ever existed.

You suggested that NK was pushing us to political suicide. I will beg to disagree with you. We committed political suicide (years ago actually) when some privileged Igbo people started using “Federal Might” to disenfranchise the Igbo masses not withstanding our traditions. NK is simply advocating for a fitting funeral.

What, if I may ask, have we gained from the 16 years that we occupied all the lofty positions in successive PDP governments? What makes this time different? From my own myopic view, the only thing we have gained is political office holders perpetuating themselves regardless of performance. These guys don’t care about voting or voters. Elections are just expedient masquerades that they manipulate to gain power and wealth. Screw the common Igbo person!
