ORUMBA CONSTITUENCY REFORM; OSINBANJO RECEIVES HON BEN NWANKWO LED DELEGATION.

Hon Ben Nwankwo, a house member representing Orumba Federal constituency has led a delegation to the presidential villa, seeking federal intervention on the dilapidating condition in the constituency.

The delegation was received by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa yesterday. The delegation from Orumba federal constituency which was led by Hon. Ben Nwankwo poured out their request to the vice president, highlighting several ecological and educational challenges in the constituency that requires immediate interventions from the federal government.

In their request, they pleaded with the federal government through the office of the vice president to grant Oko Polytechnic a degree awarding status, so as to improve the value and academic strength of the institution.

They went further to seek an upgrade in the Federal College of Education, Umunze to be a degree awarding institute on technical basis.

However, they also cried out the challenges they faced, as a result of the deadly erosion trouble in the constituency. The Orumba delegation therefore asked the federal government to intervene on the decimation of lands by erosion in the constituency. They stressed that erosion challenge in the constituency has affected localities like Agulu, Nanka, Oko and many other cities in the region. Stating that it is the deepest and most destructive erosion site in Nigeria. It is recorded to have swallowed over 100 houses and farmlands, as well as leaving several people homeless, hungry and jobless.

Prof. Lazarus Ekwueme also ceased the opportunity to appreciate the federal government in the role she played in the burial of former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme. He therefore sustained the appeal of the delegation from Orumba constituency, stressing that any intervention by the federal government will go a long to improve the socioeconomic well-being of people in that region.

However, vice president Yemi Osinbajo responded to their appeal as he  assured the delegation of an immediate ecological study in Orumba constituency. He also stated that a submission for the required international assistant will be made immediately.

He also recommended a critical follow up and responsive collaboration with Hon. Ben Nwankwo, so as to ensure that the reason for this meeting is achieved.

On the basis of the required approval of Umunze federal College of Education and the Oko polytechnic as degree awarding institutions, Prof. Osinbajo assured them of the possibilities, but that a formal request must be made, so as to sustain the process

Moreover, the vice president also highlighted the Federal government's interest in Anambra state. He identified the recent feeding program of over 150,000 children, as well as the employment of about 1000 cooks in the state. He went further to uncover the plans of the federal government in the construction of the second Niger bridge which will go a long way to improve the economic activities in Orumba region.

In his conclusion, he  commended the efforts of late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who he says was indeed a great nationalist, who respected humanity and the values of integrity; he says "'we remain extremely proud of Dr. Alex Ekweme, and it was right to celebrate him the way we did"
