BadBradley:

Is it just me or you actually listed just 4 documents which are

1 driver's licence
2 vehicle licence

3. Insurance

4 certificate of road worthiness

And you didnt help the situation by not numbering them orderly.

On a serious note, which government agency's directives are motorists to obey?

The idiots in police uniform have asked me repeatedly for all the above and then for proof of ownership. I have been stopped at Benin-Agbor road by SARS patrol team and asked to produce the receipt of my vehicle's plate number. Had to call an assistant commissioner of police for escort to get these formalised robbers in uniform out of my way.

Then there's VIO! Why there can't just be a uniform paper put out by ministry of transport or information for motorists instead pf having these thieving cash-hungry thugs in uniform to be frustrating motorists?

Which way Nigeria, land of the absurd!
I feel your pain bro, especially those criminals called SARS. What in the world is plate number receipt?
OP, what your saying is true, but for safety sake carry a the paper of everything in your car, even carry your tire receipt, fire extinguisher recipt all the papers I tell you. Soon they'll be asking for proof of working peniz. Idiotic individuals. angry angry

I tell you, I was asked once for police clearance once. And they usually demand this illegality in the highway where you're alone.

In 2016, the police public relations officer at force headquarters Abuja made a list of papers motorists should carry and surprisingly stated that certificate of road worthiness should only be for commercial vehicles. But now the FRSC is demanding same for private motorists.

I made a coloured photocopy of that statement and showed it to police officers when I get stopped. Some where cowered, other strong-willed criminals in the system insisted that the police in Abuja cannot tell them what to do on the road. Even when I reminded these illiterate thugs called police that the Nigeria police is a centralised command and so all orders and directives from headquarters apply nationwide.

The PRO at force headquarters also listed that proof of ownership is for unregistered cars and those who sell new and tokunbo vehicle as a means of identification and ownership.

But our criminals in black will ask you for that document just to extort money from you.

Pathetic country.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has revealed a list of the most important vehicle documents.
According to the agency’s Facebook page, these six documents must be on the driver, at all times, as lack of these documents could to harassment and a seized car.

1. A valid Driver’s License
2. Vehicle license.

After your license as a driver, getting your vehicle license is also as important. This can be easily done on the FRSC official website. This is what your vehicle license looks like:
Insurance Certificate.

Insurance certificate

A vehicle insurance is also known as car insurance, motor insurance or auto insurance. It is insurance for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other road vehicles.

It provides financial protection against physical damage and/or bodily injury resulting from traffic collisions and against liability that could also arise there from.

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) handles vehicle insurance.

It usually looks like this:
Certificate of Road worthiness

This is a document certifying that a vehicle is road-worthy and can be driven on the Nigerian road for a stated period of time.

This document is mandatory for all commercial vehicles and its validity is for a period of 6 months. For private vehicles, however, that are older than 5 years, the road-worthiness certificate is to be obtained once a year.

The road-worthiness certification process has been adopted on the AutoReg platform in Kebbi and Niger states.

This is what it looks like:.
