#LazyNigerianYouths: Buhari's Faulty Statistic and Failure Of Leadership...!!! by TheTrueSeeker: 12:00pm On Apr 21, 2018
President @MBuhari Speaking at the Common Wealth Business Forum in Westminster on April 18, 2018 reportedly said: “the current population of Nigeria is 180m and out of which 60% are below the age of 30 and they are lazy, uneducated, and don’t like to do any work because they believe their country is an oil-rich nation, thus always wanting free oil money”

Firstly,
60% of 180m = 108m
Remaining 40% of 180m = 72m

So President @MBuhari is directly or indirectly implying that about 108m Nigerians are uneducated, lazy and therefore expecting free-bees.

That’s a huge population to be given such rating.

But looking at the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistic’s website
http://nigerianstat.gov.ng/

It is easier to see how erroneous and faulty President @MBuhari may have been, judging by available data on youth population, unemployment rate and the major cause of unemployment rate especially in the Q3 of 2017.

Recently, the Statistician General of the Federation/CEO, NBS; Dr Yemi Kale, at the DUBAWA Launch, Yar Adua Center Abuja delivered a lecture which he titled ‘GoodNews, Fake News and Statistics’ where he said and I quote

“Accordingly, an increasing trend which DUBAWA will have to contend with is with respect to those that deliberately try to misinform by taking the true data but twisting its meaning to give a false conclusion.
Such misuse of data can also not be ignored. Some misuse statistics because they are neither willing nor prepared to face the reality and truth exposed by data. This is not a problem of statistics, but rather a problem of the ill-motive of the users of the data. Just as a knife can be utilized to save lives if it is used by a surgeon, it could very well be a harmful instrument in the hands of a criminal. Thus, statistics are ‘innocent’, and, hence do not deserve any wrong labelling. Blames must go instead, to the ones who abuse or misuse it, particularly those who do so knowingly or selectively"
