I for one believe they simply lack information on how to go about improving their circumstances. My suggestion is that they go into manufacturing. Backyard manufacturing of the type practised by millions of Chinese, and increasingly, Indian, households.

The idea that one needs a large factory and large amounts of capital to become a manufacturer is false. A lot of the things we import from China, we imagine they're made in huge factories. But it's not true. Many are made in people's backyards.

You can go online and learn how to manufacture shoes in your backyard. Top shoes that you can sell for serious money. Not just in your neighbourhood or country, but worldwide. Sell in your online store.

Other items you can manufacture in your backyard, and for which you can easily learn the method online, are:

Soap. Create your own flashy brand, with different soap flavours and fragrances. Add local/traditional herbs to some of the soaps and advertise their 'green, healthy, healing benefits'. Great selling point.
