Urges youths to take back power in 2019

By Damian Duruiheoma, Owerri

One of Nigeria’s presidential aspirants for 2019 general elections, Mr Omoyele Sowore, has told the people of South East not to expect any better treatment from President Muhammadu Buhari because he would never hand over to the Igbo in 2023 if he won again in 2019.

Speaking when he stormed Owerri, the Imo state capital, in continuation of his town-hall meeting across the nation and beyond, Sowore, who is of Sahara Reporters fame, said any Igbo thinking Buhari would hand over to the south east would be deceiving himself because, according to him, the president had shown his disdain to the Igbo from the appointments and treatment meted against the south east.

“If Buhari loves South East, let him appoint any of them in charge of any of the key security forces and agencies and ministries and not wait till 2023. In fact, if Buhari loves Igbo, let him hand over to them in 2019 and not 2023 when they will play another politics with it. They have been dividing us with this for a long time and we can no longer take them seriously”, he said He urged the people of south east to ignore any entreaties from President Buhari to vote for him because he would never change his attitude. Sowore accused the country’s ruling class and the military of doing business with insurgency across the country, saying there is no war against insurgency going on.

“You saw what happened under Jonathan administration and how much they found with each of the generals who were involved in that war. “It was Sahara Reporters that broke the news that current chief of army staff bought houses in Dubai. Where do you think he got the money from? It’s from this kind of activities. And recently, General T.Y Danjuma revealed that there are generals in service actively supporting herdsmen and nobody has denied that so far. “You saw what happened in Dapchi where Boko Haram came and picked up 110 girls and when they finished negotiation, they walked back into the town, drove in leisurely and even addressed the people of Dapchi that they don’t want them to send their children to school anymore.

What that tells you is that the generals know where to find Boko Haram and Boko Haram knows where to find the generals. There is no war against insurgency going on until you change the commander in chief. He cannot command troops to win the war”, Sowore said. He warned on the danger ahead if Nigerians go ahead to vote for Buhari, saying “analog mentality cannot rule a digital generation”.

The presidential aspirant urged Nigerian youths to brace up and take back power from a generation that cares less for the country’s development as a nation. He expressed surprise over the neglect of the youth zone with over 70 percent population in the sociopolitical and economic sphere of the nation, which he said had impeded the exploitation of abundant talent needed to move the nation forward.

According to him, “this situation, created through a turn by turn politics championed by persons without capacity to lead, demands that as youths we must rise to take the country back, and restructure her along economic lines, invest more in education and introduce a no work, no pay policy in the parliament because the nation’s senators are the laziest set of people I have ever seen”.

Sowore frowned over the continuous funding of Assets Management Commission of Nigeria (AMCON) to assume debts created through irresponsibility of a few whose pre-occupation has consistently been on holding the nation down. According to the aspirant, the AMCON remains the worst scam that must stop and other corrupt system supported by the clique in power, and funds effectively deployed in wealth creation effort to drive prosperity across country
