The Emirates stadium will be a beehive of activities as the first leg of the Europa League semi-final between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid will take place at the over 60, 000 seating capacity edifice. Some soccer pundits see the match between both teams as ‘the final before the final’ in a match that promises to be intense, action-packed and highly tactical. Arsenal are glad to have Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech available for selection ahead of tonight’s encounter. The trio were absent on Sunday in the Gunner’s win over West Ham due to minor injuries. Atletico Madrid’s manager Diego Simeone has included former Chelsea forward Diego Costa in the squad for the showdown at the Emirates. Simeone said at the weekend the Spanish striker had “no chance” of being fit for the trip to Arsenal for the Europa League first leg tie but the forward who had a hamstring injury has been included in the 20-man squad. The forward has missed three games limping out of the quarter final second leg clash against Sporting Lisbon, and has netted six times in 18 games for Atletico since his move from Chelsea. Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be unavailable for the game tonight but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is hopeful the midfielder will be fit to feature in the second tie as he recovers from a knee injury. Mohamed Elneny who has damaged ankle ligaments is out for the remaining part of the season, an injury sustained in a match against West Ham. Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible to play for Arsenal, having featured for Borussia Dortmund in the same competition this season. Having made known his departure plans, the Europa League is Wenger’s final chance to win a major trophy at the club. The Frenchman admitted it would be an “anti-climax” should the Gunners fail to do so. “That’s why we want to give our absolute all to have a chance of going to the final,” he added. On facing Atletico, Wenger said: “I would say one of the strengths is that they have no obvious weakness. “They are a very efficient team and a team who can use every weak moment of their opponent.” This is obviously going to be the first meeting between these sides. Atletico will be the tenth Spanish side the Gunners have faced in Europe. Despite Arsenal’s position in the English Premier League this season, they have scored 29 goals this season in Europa League; more than any other side. In only one previous European campaign have the Gunners score more, netting 30 in 1999-2000 when they competed in both Champions League and the Uefa Cup.
