In Nigeria, most politicians are regarded by their first names (surnames).
We have Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan, Buhari, Sambo, Osinbajo, Saraki, Tinubu, etc. the list goes on and on for just about any politician.
But I've noticed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is more known by his last name "ATIKU" than "ABUBAKAR".
Why is that? Is it because there are many popular Abubakars?
Is it because his administration followed the military regime of Abdusalam Abubakar and he wanted to separate himself or his name from the immediate past head of state at the time?
Is it even his doing or that of the Nigerian people? Who knows?

Op is right bro. surname is your first name that is why when writing your name, you will always put surname first

Op he is using Atiku because it sounds more national.If he uses Abubakar, Igbos will sense the Hausa in It more quicker and spit on him whenever he comes to contest despite whatever he promise.
