Emerging information reveals that Nigeria was duped to the tune of over N137 billion in the purchase of 12 tucano aircraft’s from the United States without approval from the National Assembly.

President Buhari had without legislative appropriation approved the purchase of the 12 war planes from the United States at a cost of $496 million.

Interestingly, the market price of the aircraft $10.2million (bulk purchase) since we are purchasing 12 planes it should cost a total of $122.4million but Nigerians were charged $496m instead of $122m.

This means that Nigeria was duped tonthr tune of $373.6m (N137,484,400,000).

The negotiation for this plane started since the last regime. Unfortunately, the GEJ administration couldn't strike a deal with the erstwhile US regime wjo slammed Nigeria Military with Human Abuse. However, Buhari administration continued on the negotiation and has successfully strike a deal. The deal is not just a plane but comes with support, training and maintenance.

Firstly, the market price of the plane cost $10m. That is just the price of a single unit. We have not added the configurations, the cost of training personnels, spare parts, maintenance, bombs and rockets. From what I heard, this plane is coming with thousands of bombs and rockets, this is coming at a cost.

The warplane is not guguru and epa which you buy and simply eat. Nigeria is not technologically buoyant enough to maintain or fabricate spare parts for planes. We do not have the skills of building our own bombs or rockets. We do not have the the talents that can fly warplane without proper trainings from the manufacturer. These are what added to the cost.

Think about it... You want to buy a phone that worth $100 from Aliexpress, this phone can arrive at $200 when we add more more ram, rom, tscard, screen guide, mouse, touch pen, mode of delivery (dhl, fedex and destination), system upgrade and modification of system. This will add more to the initial cost.

So we all need to throw sentiment away and ask questions. The senate are angry because they do not have pay cuts. And Government is paying directly to US Government for the planes without intermediaries unlike what was obtained in previous government.

OP, you did not do a proper research on this issue before publishing this piece.
The aircraft expenditure includes;
1.Hangar for housing the aircrafts
2.Training of manpower
3.Spare parts
4.Rockets and Missiles and other ammunitions5. miscellaneous,etc.

You tried but the market price of the plane is not $10m. Why is everybody embracing of lies?. Who gave you that price?. Where is this particular plane version manufactured Brazil or US?. The price every idxxt is quoting off Wikipedia and other places, is it not 2003 price?. What has changed in the price of components and basic materials like titanium, steel, aluminium or carbon fibre? Why do we embrace ignorance and half knowledge in this country?.
MI 35M is a helicopter that Nigeria just bought , the version we bought cost $35m each. There are used MI 35 for $12m.

What of surveillance systems on It? EO/OR, same price?. There was even nothing like that on that same plane in 2003.
So many complexities. To be a youth in Nigeria is not easy. The ignorance is astonishing.

You have a good point. I do not have the right cost but know that even at $10m, when the other configuration are added, the value will increase.

This is Afghanistan. Their deal did not include hangars and large nos of precision bombs and missiles and also no expensive maintenance contract because the US is well edtablished in county. Check the price.

Different deals, different prices. Nigeria has a large manpower element. They will train pilots and engineers for the planes. Two pilots per plane. They will do some systems integration work to make sure the sophisticated weapons work as a unit.

So the Americans sending Super Tucanoes to Iraq and Afghanistan to destroy ISIS and the Taliban, they have squadrons of F16s in those countries. Those planes are useless against a small fast moving enemy that is hiding. For Iraq, ISIS came out and captured territory, the F 16s were useful in only that role.
I support Nigeria buying F 16s but it is for use against Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Sudan ...not Boko Haram. Boko Haram will dodge them and stick commit havoc. You need a slow plane that carries many cameras that can see at night and under the trees and deliver accurate bombs and rockets. A plane that is also not expensive to fly. One of the only planes like this is Super Tucano

The NAF is going through a comprehensive modernization program. The Mi-35Ms will contribute to the NAF’s close air support (CAS) efforts, which will be directed at the country’s counterinsurgency (COIN) campaigns. Nigeria is also hopeful of securing U.S. approval for the sale of Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano CAS aircraft to bolster its CAS arm. Although a turboprop, the Super Tucano is capable of deploying air-to-ground munitions – including precision-guided bombs – much akin to a fast jet. It is often marketed as a lower cost, but attack-centric, alternative to fast jet fighters such as the F-16.

https://quwa.org/2017/01/15/nigeria-receives-two-mi-35m-attack-helicopters/

From the above, it appears that Nigeria bought and had received two Mi 35M and Buhari wants to add another 12 super tucano cas aircraft to the airforce fleet.

The total order was Mi 36M is six. We have received delivery of two and awaits four.

Nigeria placed a contract for six Mi-35M combat helicopters in August 2014.

https://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/mi-35m-hind-e/

Please elaborate more on this. Is Buhari paying for Tucano plane or Mi 35m helicopter. I need some clarification there
Re: Nigeria Was Duped Over N137 Billion In Purchasing Of 12 Super Tucano Aircrafts F by NafeesaAA(f): 1:13pm On Apr 28, 2018
Different planes for different purposes.

F-35: For Strike
B2: For Strategic Bomber
Su35: for Air Superiority

The Super Tucano is not a WW2 antique, but a very modern Fourth Generation combat aircraft ideal for Counter Insurgency operations. Even the American are presently running trials for a new light Combat Air Support CAS aircraft in place of the A-10 Warthog. Of the 3 aircrafts being considered, the Super Tucano is one.

Nigeria according to recently available information has received a total of six combat helicopters. They may be be four remaining MI 35M making the six, a further six making eight or six western products with same function.
We will know in less than 3 weeks.

LAZY youth... Don't just start a thread about topics you know nothing about.
The same plane you are talking about can go way above $10m, the price of military platforms varies according to the level of sophistication and configuration.
The Nigerian contract is not just about the 12 war planes, the total package includes infrastructure that is needed to successfully operate the Tucanos, training, spears, precision munitions among other things.
