How can you tell?

How can you tell?

Easiest way is to look at the transmission lever aka gear selector.

The gear indicators P,N,R,D, etc, will usually be on the left side of the lever for a production LHD or one that was converted very professionally.

They will be on the right side of the lever for a production RHD or one that wasnt totally converted, as in this case.

In addition the corolla altis happens to come mostly from RHD countries, so more often than not, they are production RHD.

Another example in the thread below. Note the gear lever and the side the indicators are on. The corolla on that thread also happens to come mostly from RHD countries, that particular vehicle if I recall correctly originated in the UK but was auctioned in Dubai.

Check the handbrake. It's on the right of the car and closer to the passenger, instead of the left

Provide the VIN and I will indicate the factory driving position.

Even without the VIN, and with 'perfect' conversion, the tell tale signs are always there.

Read the thread above.

About the VIN comment, it's possible to get information about the region, country, city and plant where a vehicle was manufactured, from the VIN.

With this information it would just be a matter of looking for other signs, depending on the level of thoroughness of the conversion process. Wipers, emergency brakes, transmission levers, etc.

This comment is in general terms. There are specific instances where knowing the vehicle origin may not necessarily indicate the factory driving position.
