There were already two large scale ethno-religious massacres in Nigeria BEFORE independence. So what kind of "smooth working" are you talking about? And how does contesting an election in another region of YOUR COUNTRY (in which you live) amount to abnormality?

orisa37:
Things were smooth working until Azikwe wanted to be Premier of the West, The Hausas drove away The Igbos from Kano, The Igbos provocatively invaded Ore and now a Daura man is stealthily squeezing the 9/10 of his Emirate in Niger, Chad and Cameroon into the Southern parts of Nigeria without permission or shame and using the jointly owned Nigerian Resources to carry out this nefarious maladministration. Restructure this Country and let's have P E A C E AND S E C U R I T Y from the Grassroots

@ BOLDED .........It's interesting that the same victims of these two ethno-religious slaughters were the ONLY ardent proponents of One nigeria, though it was clear even then, that their decision was not borne out of love for their killers but pure GREED.

The relationship between the 3 main regions at the time was not conducive for such a notion. we might have been living in the same country but not as BROTHERS but rather as fierce rivals so why then would one aspire to be placed in charge of his rivals' affairs if not out of sheer mischievousness.

1. Your digression to "only ardent proponent of one Nigeria" is an invalid counter argument to the fact that there were more than one PRE-independence massacres in Nigeria.

2. A time came when the habitually slaughtered group said enough is enough and rejected the oneness. But what happened thereafter? Did the rejection of one Nigeria stop the killings? No, in fat, it emboldened the killers to carry out a three-year long state sponsored genocide. It's more than 50 years now, yet the killings are getting worse. But, for some very silly reasons, some idiots are still here blaming it on the choices that a few individuals made over 50 years ago.

3. The contestant in question was both fully resident in the west and had more stakes and investment in the west than the majority of the other westerners did in those days. He merely contested an election. He did not do anything illegal. If he was unqualified, all the people needed to do was to peacefully refuse him their votes. Why should that be a problem if not for the inherent evil in your collective psyche?

Of course, there were more than one ethno-religious massacres in the country before independence yet it was only the victims (ibos) that were still salivating at the prospect of dominating everyone else in the new nation. This was the reason why, it was the ibos who chose to wait for their tormentors before they achieve self rule which the West went ahead and accepted a few years earlier.

The "ostensible " victims of these ethno-religious slaughters only finally denounce One Nigeria when it became obvious that their dream of owning the new nation was never going to materialise, so they decided to annex the "golden goose" that the whole nation depends on and as if that wasn't enough, they proceeded to another region to avenge the death of their kith and kin at the hands of another group.

Here we go again......so zik had more stake and investments in yorubaland than other yorubas in the region. How many ibos were in yorubaland in the early 50's when the election took place? Oh yeah, zik did not commit any illegality by aspiring to rule over the yorubas in their own domain when the r/ship (between them)was anything but cordial. Even after what transpired in the first republic when you greedy lot marginalised the much more educated yorubas in their own land, you impish lot still went ahead to tag Awolowo as the harbinger of tribalism in the country. Haba!

The hausa/fulanis that had been slaughtering the ibos long before independence and whom you ibos readily jumped into bed with on independence day resides in the north but when you guys decided that "enough is enough", what did you do? Came to yorubaland looking for northerners to kill whilst at the same time salivating at the prospect of occupying yorubaland and imposing your will on the locals. Meanwhile, the northerners that had been slaughtering your people- you all of a sudden lost the direction to their region.
