Participatory Democracy: How Exactly Can Nigeria Be Politically Refined? by Yankiss(m): 7:04am On May 02, 2018 |
Many of us, including our political leaders, are guilty of only pointing fingers, but fail woefully in adducing workable solutions to the myriads of problems in Nigeria. Until the present government came into power, they did not fully appreciate the numerous challenges faced by the predecessor government. We are in the dawn of a new dispensation and a record number of aspirants are openly declaring daily to take over the mantle of leadership of our great nation. What exactly are the challenges of Nigeria and how, workably, can these be fixed? Informed views, please! cc Lalasticlala mynd44 1 Like 1 Share |

Nigeria President is more powerful over his people than the US President. Restructure the 36 States and return Power to the Grassroots. All Powers of God are for the grassroots. It is their right and not that of a Daura man to Lord it over a Yenagoa or Ozozo man. Restructure, Restructure and Restructure the election system, homeland security system, resources uses and application system, reverse fund allocation system etc and Nigeria will be peaceful and less notorious. 1 Like |

orisa37: Good one. I suggest going back to regional structure and resource control. The various regions can manage their development individually and pay tax to the centre. The federal government in turn maintains the armed forces and police and administers the regions using taxes from them. The present system is only federal on paper but unitary in practice. It is unworkable and sure to lead Nigeria to doom. |

The F.G should have no Business with State taxes. Taxes are States incomes. The states will pay uniform allocations, like ten percent(a Tithe) to F.G. FG should take its hands off Police Control and internal Security arrangements of the States. It is the States Responsibility to control illegal and unprivileged Migrants in their States. The States should have their own independent election commissions to elect their Local Counsellors, State Assembly Members, Federal Representatives, Governors and jointly The President of the Federation. The F.G will be responsible for the Military, Foreign Affairs and signing of all Treaties for Nigeria State. Nigeria is indivisible already by Royal Charter. Thank God we overcame the experience of Biafra. The 36 States are autonomous by The Constitution of The Federal Republic and by Precedence in a keenly contested case of Shagari vs Awolowo. Thank God also for Chief Richard Akinjide. So it is a Joke and some kind of short-time Robbery to take some inalienable rights away from the grassroots. This is why Trump calls Nigeria Shithole because we use too much of "Jungle Justice" and cheat ourselves uncanningly. All these are no big deal. They are all in the Exclusive list. The NASS should just bring it out and amend it by its provisions. 1 Like |

How can this be addressed? [/quo No not so. Power corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely. One Governor in a 36 CONSTITUTIONAL STATE STRUCTURE cannot be as overriding as a self conceited and domineering Despot. 1 Like 1 Share |

Yankiss: It is true that many people are guilty of only pointing fingers. When a man or a politician is miserable, he blames the people around him, the system, and the country in general instead of trying to find solutions to Nigeria's problems. One of the biggest challenge we face today is prejudice. In Nigeria there is prejudice against tribes, against gender, and religious bigotry. Class and generation prejudice, too, is there. We have to walk carefully between those prejudices, because they hinder or impede the progress of Nigeria. The second thing is that there are good people in every party. We should not say all good people are in one party and all bad people are in the other. It is not the party, but the people that matter. If they are criminals and are doing wrong, they should not be given a ticket...Period!!!. So we should not think one party is better than the other. It is people who make a difference 1 Like |
