Has Black Panther Influenced Young Nigerians interest In Politics? by majorbravo: 3:38pm On May 06, 2018 |
2018, and It is no longer news that since the release of Black Panther in February this year, many Blacks spread across the varied spectrum of civilization have dared to dream and accomplish a change for the black race. Nigerians were not left out as they launched various attires and showed up at cinemas in solidarity with the wakanda dream. We even had the movie inspiring comedy shows like the AY live show and the Mbaku challenge all across various social media platforms. But most importantly, we have seen a major influx of young African Nigerians like Fela Durotoye, Omoyele Sowore and Kingsley Moghalu, who have returned from the United States (the country where the movie was produced), to Nigeria desirous for a better Nigeria. In the movie, Eric Killmonger had travelled back to Africa where his father was from and launched an attempt to take over Wakanda to liberate black people all over the world. Just not too long ago, Donald Trump, a successful american business man with no political experience, had contested against established politicians and won the presidential election in his country. Could this influx of presidential aspirants and nation builders from USA be an indirect influence of Black Panther? And could they be banking on the same streak of fortune that landed D.T. in the white house, to give them the chair over Nigerian affairs come 2019? Mynd44 OAM4j lalasticlala 1 Like |

CriticMaestro:When you do not realise that movies are the most powerful tools for inspiration or propaganda. You wouldn't see that doom is already the experience you have been living in. |

In black panther, Wakanda is running on monarchy system of government. Are you suggesting that the youths return the country to the way our ancestors ran governments? Black panther was inspirational, in the fact that it showed how Africa could have evolved if the whites didn't tamper with our development, but this is a just a dream, because in reality Africa was colonized! So other than working to improve our technological prowess (like Shuri in black panther), the movie doesn't have any effect on the political landscape in ground because it strays far away from reality. |

MrRichmond:The question is interest in Nigerian politics among diaspora youth who have now returned to their fatherland to try to take control of the affairs of the black race(Nigeria) like Killmonger tried to do in the movie. NIgerian young presidential aspirants in diaspora particularly from USA where the movie was made are returning for that purpose. |

majorbravo: Yeah, in that context you may be right. Perhaps they were influenced by the movie, perhaps not. But while they're on their mission of change, they should keep in mind what happened to killmonger at the end of the movie... Hehe 1 Like 1 Share |

Those that will change Nigeria in the future are already in the process. If a movie will inspire you. Great but if you’re going to change Nigeria you must have had the passion by now. |
