THE VILLA CURSE: What You Don't Know About The Nigerian Presidential Villa by mosaic77: 4:22pm On May 07, 2018
Do you know a lot of Nigerians believe an Angel of Death stalks our corridors of power, The Presidential Villa?

Anyway, what is this Villa curse?

Find out here.

 The History

There are a lot of State Houses in Africa. But it is only few that can match our Aso Rock in majesty and global power projection.
Yes, it is the name of the executive office and official residence of the Nigerian President. It might not be as glamorous as the White House. It might not also be as historic as the Cheong Wa Dae of South Korea. But it is still the seat of government of the most powerful black nation in the world.

Aso Rock derived its name from Aso Rock, a 400 metres monolith located at the outskirt of Abuja. It is about 936 metres above sea level. The word "Aso" means “victory” in the native language of the aborigines, the Asokoro people.

In 1976, the Military Government of Murtala Mohammed took the decision to relocate the Federal Capital Territory away from Lagos to a more central location. A few years later, the construction of Abuja as the Federal Capital Territory began. During this period, The Aguda House temporarily served as the official residence of the President.

But today, the Vice President of Nigeria uses the Aguda House as his official residence.

President Ibrahim Babangida commenced the construction of the Presidential Villa in 1985 after he took office. In 1991 he completed the Presidential Villa. Then he moved in on 12th  December .

The Villa was the venue of the Aso Rock Declaration. The Heads of Government of the Common Wealth of Nations issued this Declaration in 2003. This was during the 18th session of the Common Wealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The session was attended by 51 participants, out of which 38 were Heads of Government.

The Presidency

The Aso Rock is the seat of the Presidency. It is located within the 3 Arms Zone. This Zone contains the headquarters of the 3 arms of Nigerian governments; the Presidential Villa, the National Assembly and the Supreme Court.
The Presidency is the collective name for all agencies under the executive branch of government. It is made up of the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, the Office of the National security Adviser, Parastatals and the State House Administration.

The Chief of Staff to the President manages the Office of the President. He is also in charge of the President’s schedules and correspondences.

The State House Permanent Secretary oversees the State House administration, while the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation monitors and coordinates the implementation of government policies and programmes.

The Villa Curse

It is believed that all those who had lived at The Aso Rock for over three years had lost a spouse or relation to death while in power, while those that managed to stay less than the said number of years only end up losing a spouse under mysterious circumstances after leaving office.
These occurrences have become so regular that it is now identified as the “the villa curse”.

General Sani Abacha died after 4 years as Head of State in June 1998. It was speculated that some prostitutes extrajudicially executed him through poisoning.

President Olusegun Obasanjo in October 2005 lost his wife to abdominoplasty in Spain, 2 years after winning his second term.

In 2010, President Yar’Adua died in Saudi Arabia as a result of Pericarditis while President Jonathan lost his brother to untimely death after succeeding him. His wife, Patience underwent over 12 operations as a result of strange life-threatening abdominal affliction. The symptoms mysteriously disappeared without any trace and medical explanation after leaving the Aso Rock

President Buhari has spent more time in medical treatment abroad than any President in the history of Nigeria ever since he took up residence at The Villa. Just a few months ago, he almost lost his only son in a motorbike accident.

President Babangida who spent only 2 years at the Aso rock lost his wife to Ovarian cancer in 2009 after leaving The Villa, while Ernest Shonekan who was wise enough to refused to stay at the Villa but preferred the Aguda House and General Abdulsalami who unselfishly transferred power to civilian rule were the only ones that left the Aso Rock unscathed. Unfortunately, he lost his Vice to cancer in 2013.

Do you believe an Angel of Death stalks our corridors of power? Do you believe in this Villa curse?

I don’t.

But, what do you think?

Careless assumptions
Nigerians always read unnecessary meaning to irrelevant issues
Then what happened to Good luck Jonathan? his dog died?
I guess it is the wife's grammatical expression that died?

Very interesting article and angle...

There is a place for coincidence...

There is also the increased likelihood of death through strained physical exercise or high risk behaviour.

Both of which are likely to happen in this particular circumstance (White House, Number 10 or Aso Rock)

The wife underwent about 12 life-threatening surgeries, which mysteriously disappeared after leaving the Villa.
Jonathan lost about 2 relatives.

Read What Saraki And Dogara Told Buhari About Dino Melaye

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Monday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to compel the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to obey the laws of Nigeria.

Both presiding officers of the National Assembly had earlier met with Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking with State House Correspondents after the closed-door session, both presiding officers of NASS condemned the treatment allegedly meted on Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye.

Buhari is not the lawmaker, nor the law enforcer.

When lawmakers go begging the executive to enforce law it means lawmaking itself no longer has teeth.

Are you sure you go school at all?

Who enforces the law if not the Executives.

Then who is the Chief Executive, if not your Lord and Master.

There is a time to be born and a time to die.

In villa or not people die daily, some who don't loose relatives.

It's happening every where every day

What building is this? I always see it along the Apo-nyanya expressway, and I know it's not part of Aso villa. Anyone care to explain?
