The Lagos state government is currently carrying out a massive reform of the transport sector. And as part of the reform process, the Ambode-led administration is reconstructing some existing Motor parks in Lagos state.

Note that the primary beneficiaries of these Motor parks are the Local Government Councils together with the road transport unions (NURTW, RTEAN, etc.)

However, there is some rather curious angle to all of these.

The construction of Motor parks is the constitutional responsibility of the Local Government council.

Then, why is the Lagos state government undertaking the constitutional responsibility of the Local Government Councils in Lagos – despite the huge allocation and the enormous revenues generated by the LGAs?

But seriously, looking at the photos, all I see there are interlocking tiles and painted walls. Now, considering that that motor park (Ikeja motor park) is an existing one, which means they didn't buy the land. So, by my estimate, this renovation project couldn't have cost more than N4 million.

Can't the Ikeja Local Government council afford the N4m for this renovation? That is an amount that the park can generate in a few days of activity.

However, like I said earlier, we live in an era of the more you look, the less you see.

Which makes it even more tragic. Because it leaves LG Chairmen with nothing else to do but to steal public funds and still remain inder the radar. Its either they scrap that tier of government or they grant them complete autonomy.

That's if there's anything to steal in the first place. State governor are like dictators in their respective states, Hence the clamour for LGA autonomy.
