The Presidency has directed the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu to slow down the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in Nigeria, LeadersNG learned.

The presidency according to sources is jittery over massive turn out of people in different registration centers across Nigeria.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu is scheduled to meet with INEC commissioners next week to discuss the new directive of the Villa.

An INEC source could not tell our correspondent on why the chairman is summoning the commissioners to Abuja for an emergency meeting, but the presidency source confirmed to LeadersNG that the meeting was as a result of the directive from the Villa.

A highly placed INEC source who preferred anonymity said, the Presidency is worried over the massive campaign and sensitization being carried out by interest groups, opposition leaders and churches on the need for Nigerians to obtain their PVC as that is the only way they can effect change in 2019.

Sources said the new eligible voters might likely vote against the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC due to insecurity, massive corruption, unemployment and slow pace of progress being witnessed in the country as against hundreds of campaign promises made by the ruling party.

LeadersNG correspondent who visited some churches within the city center confirmed that churches have embarked on PVC sensitization drive with many boldly displaying the message enjoining members to go get registered.

LeadersNG further learned that the presidency believes the massive registration that is ongoing across Nigeria is an another grand plot by opposition forces to vote the president out in 2019.

The Presidency according to sources is worried about the number of people that are being registered in Southern part of Nigeria where the President’s popularity is on the average.

Lagos for instance, witnesses over two thousand people daily getting registered.

The registration which is scheduled to continue till November maybe temporarily suspended in Southern part of the country, the source said.

All efforts to reach the INEC spokesperson on phone as at the time of filing this report proved abortive as his lines were switched off.

Democracy is under threat with this administration. Buhari and APC are desperate to remain in power. I hope relevant stakeholders are on the guard.
God help us!

They have master plan to disenfranchise Nigerians especially we in South and Rigg APC and buhari to continue this killing and wickedness against Nigerians. I thought they said INEC is supposed to be independent? Why should the presidency order them to stop this peaceful and smooth registration exercise and they obey? Okay because he appointed and pay them plus including the egunje abi? We must rise up now to because I can sense a great dill of compromise from the INEC chairman. This next year's election must not be rigged by INEC in favour of their paymasters in government against the will of the masses and against our constitution. Every eligible adult must register before the election. This has been their plans that's why only one registration centre is provided in one local government area Delta and they can only register maximum of 45 or 50 people a day. is that not grand plan to disenfranchise people ? They must complete the exercise. Schikina

Devilish presidency.
Satanic,incompetent,nepotic president!
No matter their schemes, even if he likes let him empty the treasury to try to buy votes and rig the elections,Buhari must leave that office by 2019.
Any attempt to force him on us,against the will of majority of Nigerians would only break Nigeria.
I have said it severally, let those that have commonsense and love Nigeria force it on Buhari not to contest in 2019.His name on the 2019 ballot would be a danger not only to our democracy, but our corporate existence because he is by a mile the most divisive president this nation has ever had.

I think Buhari has every reason to be afraid!

The Nigerians he met in 2015 is not the same Nigerians he will encounter in 2019

He proposed a CHANGE albeit we did not ask but we have learnt our lesson and we are ready to bring him the the real CHANGE

The ORIGINAL CHANGE come 2019!
