What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a common group of metabolic disorder that are characterised ny chronic hyperglycaemia resulting from relative insulin deficiency, insulin resistance or both.

According to scientist, Diabetes is simply defined as a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar (Blood glucose) due to lack of secretion of hormone called insulin, or due to inadequate production of insulin.

Diabetes gear out when the body cells do not respond appropriately to insulin, patient with high blood sugar will typically experience frequent urination called polyuria, they will become thirsty and hungry all the time.

What is Prediabetes?

The majority patients with type 2 diabetes initially had prediabetes this is called as a result of high blood glucose level than normal but not that high enough to reach the level of diabetes diagnosis. This is sometimes known as prediabetes. You can develop full blown diabetes when your blood sugar level is above the normal range.

Types of Diabetes

There are three types of diabetes discuss below:

1. Type 1 diabetes:
In type 1 diabetes no insulin is produced because the body immune systems attacks and destroy the cells that secrete insulin.

As no insulin is produce, it lead to high glucose known as sugar level which can seriously damage the body’s organ

Type 1 diabetes is also known as insulin dependent diabetes, Juvelile diabetes or early onset diabetes because it usually develop before the age of 40th years and also found in adulthood or teenager years.

Patients with type 1 diabetes will need to take insulin injections for the rest of their life and they must ensure the proper blood sugar level by carrying out regular blood test, exercise and place them on a diet.

2. Types 2 diabetes:
Type 2 diabetes is formed when the body does not produce or secrete enough insulin for proper function pr the cells in the body do not react to insulin (insulin resistance).

Type 2 diabetes test

Approximately 92% of all causes of diabetes worldwide are type 2 diabetes. Patients can control their type 2 diabetes symptoms by los in weight, following a healthy diet and make sure you quite yam, guinea corn and sugar.

Exercise and monitor your body sugar. Type 2 diabetes can be control by taken insulin usually in tablet form.

Overweight or obese people have high potential rate of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those with a healthy body weight. overweight physically inactive and eating the wrong foods contribute to the risk factor of developing type 2 diabetes.

Being overweight/obese causes the body to release chemicals that can destabilize and disable the body cardiovascular and metabolic systems.

he scientist believe that the impact of sugary soft drinks on diabetes risk may be as a result of direct one, rather than simply an influence on body weight.

3. Gestational Diabetes
This type of diabetes is occur in some women with high glucose levels and their bodies are unable to produce enough insulin to transport all of the glucose in their cells, resulting to increasingly rising levels of glucose.

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that affects female during pregnancy and the diagnosis is made during pregnancy. in most cases, gestational diabetes develop during pregnancy (week 14-26) and disappear after the baby's born.

Symptoms of Diabetes

The main symptoms of diabetes are:

Feeling very Thirsty and Hungry

Polyruria: means frequent urination than usual, especially at night

Fatigue: act of tiredness i.e feeling very tired

Loss of weight and Muscle Bulk

Frequent Episode of thrush, itching around the penis or vagina

Slowly heals of wound or cut.

Diabetic Retinopathy, a condition that can lead to sight loss or blurred visionot

Causes of diabetes

The amount of sugar in the blood is controlled by hormone known as insulin, which is produced by the pancreas gland when food is taken, it enter through the body stream.

Insulin moves glucose out of the blood and into the cells where breakdown occur to produce energy.

However if you have diabetes your body is unable to break down glucose into energy which is formed as a result of inability of the body to produce enough insulin to move the glucose or then insulin produced doesn't work properly.

Treatment of Diabetes

Your diabetes treatment and management strategy should be agreed between you and your health care team.

The aim of diabetes treatment is to keep, within reason, blood glucose levels as near to normal as possible. Training in self management of diabetes forms an essential part of diabetes management. Treatment should be agreed on an individual basis and address medical, psychosocial and lifestyle issues.

Balanced diabetes treatments
A variety of different factors have a role to play in treating diabetes, but the importance of balanced, co-ordinated diabetes treatment for all diabetics cannot be underestimated.

Regular and successful treatment decreases the risk of each patient developing diabetes complications.

Thanks.

A concerned Nairaland guest who is not privileged to comment asked me to post to post this herbal treatment for diabetes on his behalf. A diabetic patient should look for the popular Akintola leaves and squeeze out its juice. He/she should take a teacup of the juice once a day before breakfast for three days. He should then proceed to do the test for type 1 and 2. There is no harm in trying afterall it won't cost you a dime. A trial will convince you.
