LASPOTECH EXPELS 201 STUDENTS OVER CULTISM, MALPRACTICES
The Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, on Friday said it had expelled 201 students for cultism and examination malpractices between 2015 and 2018.
Mr Samuel Sogunro, the institution’s Rector made this known in his report to the 8th Congregation of the Polytechnic.
He said 183 students were expelled for cultism while 19 were sent packing for exam malpractices

TWO NIGERIANS BATTER FELLOW STUDENT OVER WHO HAS THE RICHEST FATHER
Two wealthy Nigerians who battered a fellow student with a shisha pipe in an argument over who had the richest father have been spared jail.
Mailonline reports that Elvis Ilonze, 20, who has had his Mercedes car covered in fur, attacked his childhood friend, Prince Nnaji, in the flat they shared in Brighton, East Sussex.
Nnaji tried to escape from the flat but Ilonze, along with his friend, Daniel Oluyemi, 24, chased him and beat him up with a wine bottle on April 7 last year about 10 pm.

NIGERIAN GRADUATES WITH FIRST CLASS IN MEDICINE FROM SAUDI ARABIA VARSITY
The Batterjee Medical College, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 5, 2018, honoured a female Nigerian student, Ummukhulthum Abubakar Sadiq, as one of its best graduating students.
Sadiq was conferred with Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and given a prize as one of the best graduating students, Daily Trust reports.

EXAM MALPRACTICE: WAEC THREATEN TO CANCEL RESULT OF CANDIDATES CAUGHT WITH PHONE
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has said candidates who come into the examination hall with mobile phones or any other electronic gadgets will have their entire results cancelled.
This was made known by the Council’s Head of National Office, Olu Adenipekun at the commencement of registration for the second series of the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) for private candidates.

FUTA STUDENTS WIN MICROSOFT’S IMAGINE CUP NIGERIA FINALS
Two engineering students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Taofeek Olalekan Afeez and Alayande Abdulwaheed Abiola, have emerged winners of this year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup national finals in Nigeria.
The undergraduates of Physics Electronics & Electrical Electronics who jointly formed Team TREP invented an Internet of Things (IoT) solution called Real Drip – a device that reduces the risk of blood clot or deep vein thrombosis.

FAKE DEGREE: FG INSIST ON BLACKLISTING CERTIFICATES FROM BENIN REPUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Thursday, said that the Nigerian government will not take lightly its stance on blacklisting 52 non-accredited universities in the Benin Republic.
Mrs Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this when Gbemileke Ogunronbi, President, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Benin Republic Chapter paid her a visit in Abuja as contained in a statement by her Media Aide, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
