Regions Stroke and Neuroscience Hospital is a tertiary center dedicated to the care of patients with stroke, vascular diseases of the nervous system, epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Located only 12 minutes’ drive from Owerri town; we are within 2 hours from all the major cities in South Eastern and South Southern Nigeria. Our physicians are mainly US and UK based neuroscience specialists, with affiliations at major hospitals in these countries.

We are recruiting for suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below:

Job Title: Specialty Medical Officer – Non accredited Post NYSC fellowship in Neurosciences (Neurology and Neurosurgery)
Job Type: Full time

Requirements/Qualifications
o MBBS. Not more than 3 years post NYSC. Must have interest to pursuing a residency in either neurology, neurosurgery or psychiatry in a teaching hospital in Nigeria, UK or USA. Interest in other areas of medicine, is acceptable, but desire to acquire in-depth knowledge in neurosciences is required. Prior experience in neurosciences is not compulsory.

Personal Characteristics/Skills Desired:

o Strong background in basic medical and clinical sciences, with good clinical skills

o Interest in clinical research and publication

o Must have excellent computer skills (MS Office)

o Excellent verbal and written communication skills

o Commitment to sit and pass either the national primary, PLAB or USMLE within 3 years

o Must be able to work long hours occasionally during high hospital census or emergencies

o Ability to prioritize, handle pressure & responsibility, and work within deadlines strongly emphasized

o Interest in acquiring neurosurgical skills, neurodiagnostic tests such EEG, EMG/NCV, Evoked Potentials, Transcranial dopplers, interpretation of neuroimages CT and MRI scans etc.

o Ability to undergo rigorous training program, as part of your work schedule, which will include daily classroom lectures, literature and journal reviews
Program Commitment

• Typically not more than 3 years, within which time physician is expected to have passed and proceeded for formal post-graduate training in Nigeria, UK or USA
• Center to provide adequate examination reading materials, preparatory classes and lectures to help candidates pass examinations listed above
• Center to pay for any one of the following examinations, national primary, PLAB or USMLE per year, after six months of satisfactory service.
• Must pass at least one of the stated examination or step per year, with exccellent scores.
• Center to assist in placement into post graduate programs in Nigeria or abroad.
