The soldier in the middle of the picture has been identified as Lt. Asajun Ahmadu.
Soldiers have been rescuing plenty of hostages from the lair of Boko Haram terrorists. ยป
The army says the picture was taken as soldiers engaged terrorists in a fierce gun battle in Gobara, a village in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Apart from image, a few minutes video was shared and captured to see how brave the soldier was. See video and more photos from the sources below;

This is the most esteemed state of selflessness.

Especially in an environment where there is absolutely no motivation to render this quality of service.

Perhaps, the lifted may be handicapped, otherwise, there should be no basis for the extra efforts.

God's wisdom and protection all the way gallant officer.

Nb:
It seems Nigerian photographers have joined the theatre of war. Very good shot! smiley

Either in combat or non combat ops a complete soldier doesn't loose grip of his rifle. The image clip suggests that the soldier was not wielding his rifle. I stand to be corrected. The rescued hostage looks pale frail underfed malnourished unstable and unfit. Thus, assigning a soldier to facilitate the rescued is total wasteful of unarmed army personnel. A civil defender or policewoman would have come on board. Moreso, the kettle-wielding freed hostage was rescued when he was performing a routine islamic rituals.
