The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), also known as the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), has disclosed plans to launch new Biafran currency as part of the commemoration of its 18th year anniversary slated for May 22, 2018.

MASSOB founder and leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, made the disclosure on Wednesday during commissioning of MASSOB/BIM office at UruaguNnewi, Nnewi North local government area, Anambra State.

“We will launch the new Biafra currency immediately after the 22nd May 2018 celebration of the 18th year existence of MASSOB. With the currency we will be able to exchange with other nations’ currencies”.

“Nigerian currency is not worth it again and we believe that Biafra currency when launched will assist Biafrans to transact their business within and outside Igbo land. As we commission this UruaguNnewi office of MASSOB-BIM, Nnewi remains the Biafra headquarters since our late leader, Dim ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjikwu hailed from Nnewi. Again Nnewi North will have two offices of MASSOB-BIM as the headquarters.

The MASSOB leader who spoke through his Personal Assistant, Comrade Emmanuel Omenka, warned that MASSOB-BIM would revenge in the event of killing of any Igbo man by whomever in the North when Biafra would be achieved.

He, however, advised the Igbo to be of good behaviour and avoid acts capable of bringing them to ridicule.

He reminded that they would remain non-violent even at the slightest provocation before, during and after the 22nd May celebration.

In a related development, the Anambra Central Zonal leader of MASSOB-BIM, Mr James Ezeani, revealed in Onitsha that MASSOB/BIM members would put on Biafra uniform while the Biafra war heroes would lead the peaceful procession that would commence in the morning of 22nd May 2018. He commended Chief Uwazuruike for his (Ezeani) elevation to a leader adding that he would abide by the oath of office.

It would be recalled that Chief Uwazuruike, on several occasions, condemned the clampdown on his members, adding that the clampdown would not deter them from struggling to achieve a Biafran state.

According to him, “it is no longer hidden that the federal government of Nigeria has begun the use of military to arrest the members of Biafra independence Movement and BIM and hand them over to Department of State Service, DSS, where such members are currently, detained in underground cell in Anambra state without giving their wives access to give them food.”

Uwazuruike decried the use of the military to clamp down on a non-violent separatist movement in a democratic polity like Nigeria. “The use of the Army to arrest, detain or hand over to DSS can’t stop Biafra Day on May 22nd next week”, said Uwazuruike.
